Intel officially announce their new Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X series processors

Yeah... That is a Linear aproach, however nobody buys the 1800X when they have the 1700... So... That said you can compare a ryzen priced at 330$ with a intel priced at 599$ and don't forget:
- The prices shown are for America, so expect a nice bump for Europe;
- Prices on x299 and x399 motherboards will certanly be trough the roof...
- And you need 4 ddr4 dims to take advantage of everything...

It's nice to everyone to have this kind of competition.
But, at this time, I'm just afraid on the overall price of the plataform.

For example.
I have a R7 1700 (345€) @ 4.0ghz, with a Msi gaming plus (99€) and 16gb Gskill ripjaws ddr4 3200mhz cl 16 (143€).

I reallyyyy doubt Intels 8/16 or 6/12cores will be near that overall price...
And ppl like me that already have nice ddr4, they "will" have to buy more sticks of the same memory for quad channel...

"nhec" :D

So £100 more for the 7820X than the Ryzen 1800X. Not priced too badly for Intel tbh.

But double the price of the 1700, which is every bit as good as the 1800x. They still want more money for a hex core than AMD want for an 8 core.

The prices only look good because of what Intel were charging before. But if I said "Here, this loaf of bread for £10" then a week later changed it to £5 that does not make it a cheap loaf of bread. It just shows I was taking the p155 before and thus am still taking the p155.

I gotta say I am also rather gutted that Intel held back for so long. Keeping us on quad core CPUs and drip feeding us 5%. It's just nuts.

Add to that the fact that these CPUs are not soldered? man alive they are going to have heat issues. It's bad enough on a 4c 8t, imagine how a 18 core CPU will be if it isn't soldered? I hope to god it is or it will just be throttle heaven.

Decent prices (remember I said it'll be fairly priced for Intel-land :p ). The 7820X I am eyeing is $599 = 536 Euro = 640 Euro more likely. When will Tom gets his hands on them? I am eager to see if they (retail) indeed are not soldered...that would be bad...and controversial... Is that something they can change at will during production?

TBH I couldn't give a RATS what Intel release they've raped us for long enough so AMD all the way as far as I'm concerned

What do you mean exactly?...

Yet you still run Intel ^_^ ...

The only thing that matters is price/performance. Last generation of intel CPUs was stupendously overpriced. Now they have AMD to be compared with them. I don't mind paying 50% more, or double the price if i get equal performance gain.

I agree. I don't mind if Intel charge more if their performance is up to snuff. If the 7820X easily beats the 6900K (and thus even more so the R7 1700) in both stock and overclocked speeds, that will be a nice improvement over what AMD currently have to offer for €250 more. What would suck is if the 7820X is basically just the 6900K with a higher clock speed, both because of the 6900K's ridiculous current pricing but also because Intel are milking its customers still instead of offering true engineering prowess, something we know they're capable of doing.

Think about the heat issues the 6700k and Skylake suffered with on 4c 8t (so I7). Then multiply that by whatever you need to and think about it some. Imagine how bad a 18 core 36 thread CPU will be with the TIM that Intel use.

TBH I can't see those chips being TIMed but we shall see. If they are? lmao epic fail. They will throttle to buggery and beyond and then back.

An unbelievably stupid move if all SKUs come with TIM and not solder. Solder was always one of the big ++ with HEDT.

Nothing on availability of both CPUs and boards yet?

Nope. Even my man in Taiwan is remaining tight lipped. I would imagine this year at some point though? I mean those boards look pretty finished to me and it's not like we've only seen one either.

They may be showing the quad core CPU that is TIMed. I guess we will find out in time.

Maybe when the review embargo lifts (11-12 June)?

Der8auer also showed the 7800X with TIM on his channel. I'm really interested in seeing the reviews and effects of using TIM on the new line.

Ryzen boards looked quite finished, and it turned out that they didn't have that many of them. It is not that hard to produce few boards for show purposes. BIOS is still far from complete on Ryzen.

I'm sure once he gets back to Taiwan he will fill us in. He's not usually worried about NDA etc.

Hopefully he will; I am kind of eager at this point. I'll still be all over that i9-7820X sweetness (because it will be so much better than what I've got) but knowing more about this specifically can't hurt. It's like Intel got 9 out of 10 things right and then when you see the 10th point you go aw...

Look at that... An 8 core, 16 thread CPU for well under $1000... hahaha. AMD definitely rattled Intel's cage. :)

The problem is, the majority will still buy Intel instead, even if they don't need the extra performance. We're all so glad there is competition again, but who is actually going to buy from the competition? This doesn't really apply to the folks on this forum, but the common thread (pun intended) among the masses is, 'Hey, I'm glad AMD are competitive again so I can buy an Intel CPU/Nvidia GPU for less.' If enough people say that, AMD will not remain competitive for long and Intel will return to stagnation.
