Source from main board manufacturer said Intel has released the VRM (Voltage Regulator Module) design guidelines for the next-generation Intel LGA 1366 processors, and this VRM design guide is updated from 11.0 to 11.1. The first LGA 1366 processors, code-named Bloomfield, are 45nm Quad Core based on Nehalem. This new processors contain 8-12MB L2 Cache, and the so missed Hyper-Threading technology will return in Bloomfield. In addition, there is rumor saying that a new transmission protocol will be adopted to replace the Front Side Bus introduced since Pentium 4’s era.

The new interface, LGA 1366, according to Intel white paper, will be called Socket B. Based on VRM 11.0, the latest version 11.1 has a definition which called "Iout" to feature the support of LGA1366 processors. Power on Configuration (POC) and Market Segment Identification (MSID) functions are added onto VID during power up. Power State Indicator Input (PSI#), and single step D-VID are also added, while VID_Select, VR-Fan and VR10 VID are removed since 11.1.

Source also cited that LGA 1366 will be firstly introduced for high-end market in mid-2008, while LGA 775 would stay until mid-2009 when LGA 1366 become a mainstream.

Intel Eaglelake (ICH10) + GeForce 7 EOL + VRM11.1 released for Nehalem LGA 1366

Shamelessly stolen from XS...

Intel Eaglelake (ICH10)

Intel has completed designing their Bearlake desktop boards based on P35 and G35 chipsets with the launch on March 15th. We can expect to see a slew of Bearlake boards designs from the motherboard makers during CeBIT. Boards development for its successor "Eaglelake" are going start soon and it will be pairing up with ICH10 Southbridge to support higher FSB Penryn processors. ICH10 as revealed in our earlier article supports 10GB and Wireless Ethernet controllers with some new technologies to reduce CPU load and improve power consumption

GeForce 7 EOL

NVIDIA 7950GT, 7900GS, 7600GT and 7600GS will reach EOL soon to make way for GeForce 8600 (G84) series. The last shipment is on 28th of April and we can expect to see fewer GeForce 7 series on the market from mid Q2 onwards.

VRM11.1 released for Nehalem LGA 1366

Intel has released the VRM design guidelines for the future Intel LGA 1366 Nehalem processors. The latest VRM design guide is updated from 11.0 to 11.1 with addition of output current "Iout" feature to support LGA1366 processors, Power on Configuration (POC) and Market Segment Identification (MSID) functions muxed onto VID lines during power up, Power State Indicator Input (PSI#) added, single step D-VID added for C-state entry and exit. Features removed from VRM 11.1 are VID_Select, VR-Fan and VR10 VID. Few months back, we have discussed about new Socket B for Bloomfield and its clock speed to hit above 4GHz and has 8MB shared L2 cache.
