Intel Kaby Lake i5 7600K and i7 7700K CPU Review

Wonderful review Tom, thanks very much!

A little more than a year ago I picked up the Skylake i5 with the promise of picking up the Kaby Lake i7 for my gaming rig to get back in the hyperthreading world. However this review and previous leaks and mention of an upcoming innovative design succeeding Tiger Lake changed my mind into waiting for that new design in 2020. Running at 4.6 with ease is fine for my gaming rig, even without hyperthreading.

As always a great review Tom thank you very much for all your hardwork and of course everybody at OC3D :)

I'm still on an i7-4770K and to be honest I really can't justify the upgrade even with everything it brings simply down to the cost involved. My current rig doesn't struggle running games at all so for now at least I will probably be skipping this generation and will possibly upgrade with the 8th generation chips.

Intel have shot themselves in the foot with Kaby when at best its offering 10% better performance but clock for clock there is practically no difference.
I see the same coming soon in the gfz arena and fully expect AMD to not only match nVidia but even beat them and Intel this year. it can only be a good year for the end user :)

I read the same expectations every year and they've never come true yet ;) the past should be a good indicator for the future. I do hope you're right actually, it'd be good!

We won't see major differences for Intel until 2020 I think.

Yeah I know they usually blow hot air I just think this time around they have something really special.

With these coming out, the problem AMD could face if they don't get stuff to market soon, is people will get fed up with waiting and buy what's out there now.
though with Intel not giving tom the prices and not sending him an info sheet, this feels a little rushed, which may be intel know more about zen and are cashing in now b4 zen releases and leaves them standing

Thats what im beginning think too

i feel they just released this crap because they could, and because they want even more of your moneys. adding in a diffrent onboard vga card that almost no one uses and upping the out of the box core clock doesnt = a better product in my eyes.

The i7 is for sale in one shop here for a whopping €500,- lolz

$500 AUD so for once we're not getting completely ripped off compared to the rest of the world. Still not enough to warrant an upgrade from my 3770k (which was round $350 iirc) but if I was in the market for a new rig the i5 looks pretty spot on for price v performance. Can't wait to see how Ryzen stacks up against it.

Another great review Tom. :D Well i think this generation is not worth upgrading to from few recent ones. Yea it is nice to have new processors often, but this feels like rebranding to me. High core speeds will benefit some apps, and games, but nothing ground braking. If you didn't upgrade for a while, yea this is a good buy, otherwise chill out, and w8 new architecture. Also this is Intel covering their blue butts just case AMD releases some high clock CPUs. This way they have 5GHz +, and they are safe.
