Intel Core i7-9700K reportedly overclocked to 5.3GHz with air cooling

haha I translated that Chinese article and found this, made me lol.

“extrude a large tube of toothpaste”, and the overclocking ability is very strong.

*puts tinfoil hat back on for a moment*.

I have a feeling that Intel may have had to solder this. I don't think they were "being nice" or anything of the sort. I reckon that 8 cores in that package was simply too much for their goop, and that they had to solder it just to keep it from continually throttling, which would have made them lose money.

I will be interested to see if all of the 9000 series are soldered. Or are they all 8 core?

The rumor mill is that the 9700K is indeed soldered due to the competitive nature coming from AMD.

I don't need a faster CPU. I need a cooler CPU. I see little to 0 gain OCing mine from 4.4 to 4.8 anyway, except for a higher electric bill and hotter temps. Maybe 5-6fps gain which is not worth it.

I can game all good at 4.8 with the 8700k... but for a long time I had it at 5.0 just to have. But inthe end its hotter and for a few fps more? Nah.

According to 3D Mark, my 2700X boosts to the same speeds. :p Had a proper LOL this weekend when looking at 3DM results and saw that it thought my 2700X had hit over 5.2Ghz, even though according to Afterburner it only hit 4.35Ghz.
