Intel are rumoured to launch Skylake-X and their X299 chipset at Gamescom 2017

Well well well... weren't it one of OC3D's members that recently posted a post regarding predictions of that Intel's next chipset would be called X299? Nice one bud ;)

I wonder though if it's worth it upgrading from a X99 system. The new chipset does seem to have some nice features, yet no PCIe 4.0 support (not that I need it though). I guess that might first become available in 2018/19

they really like milking customers no doubt the performance gains over the x99 will be marginal

Do you people think that mATX and/or mITX motherboards will come for this new platform? Or just ATX?...

My prediction: One iTX board from AsRock, 1 micro-ATX board from ASUS (not ROG), 1 micro-ATX from Gigabyte (with flashy colors). So yeah looking at the last few years, don't have high expectations for that.

Ahh I see, thanks mate :)

Well, it all depends how much of an advantage it has over the 5820k. Maybe I upgrade to a better system, but if its more or less the same then I wait.

Agreed, I guess the demand wasn't there for mATX in the past few generations. Seems like every manufacturer has 5-10 variants of ATX boards and 1 mATX model that gets left by the wayside. Example: Asus X99 mATX WS board is severely limited compared to all of their other X99 boards, usually the opposite for any product with the WS moniker from any maker.

X99 with the 5930K is the last "high end" CPU/mobo I'll be getting, As I'm only on single GPu's from here on out I'll get the "Z" platform that comes out after the Z370 platform, Probably the 9700K and Z470 ? Or maybe even AMD if they become competitive again.

Depending on how AMD do, I'll probably switch over. Gotta support the little guy and I don't like how Intel keep barely changing anything every year for more money. With AMD at least I'll get to keep the motherboard
