intel 945 3.4 dualcore overclocking

Hey just got my 3.4 using it in a asus p5p800 se wondering if others are running the same cpu and what overclocking you have managed right off im doing 4.08ghz on the lowest vcore. And wht temps are safe iv noticing idle is 25c load is jumpin from 50-62 fresh paste and the pc only been on for 10mins.

62°C is good on air for a P4 so you're safe with that. 4GHz isn't too shabby mefinks though you may be able to push for higher

it has speedstep support to so i can change the muti in window. Bios options only let me do min speed max speed or auto. I tried setting it to min speed and cranking fsb to 270-300 no post i guess speedstep only takes affect when the os boots. I need to redo my heatsink my zalman 9500 was a pain to get on so the paste probly aint spread out to well.

Turn speedstep and any other throttling off if you're overclocking as this just defeats the object!

Ah na you didnt get what i was sayin i can force it to use a 12 muti instead of a 17 to get a higher fsb but the catch is it wont kick in till windows is on.

whether he gets you or not his point is still 100% valid, if you have any form of thermal throttling on turn it off otherwise there is no point doing any form of overclocking atall

Well yes tt is off but with this board i can use speedstep as a muti changer set to low speed locks muti to 12 set to high locks it to 17 set it to auto then it thottles around. Im trying to set it to 12 then up the fsb as high as i can but it seems it dont take affect till the pc starts to boot windows.

Maybe a bios update/hack will let you change it in there?

Overclocking programs suck vs through the bios.

ya im looking around. It will do 4.25 so far but temps range around 60-65c with the little more vcore needed thk i give 1.30 at that speed. Just redid my paste and now im running 45-52c running 4.25 with auto vcore turns out to be 1.240. Wierd my drop mod dont work on this cpu like it did my 820 2.8

If you're not using the BIOS to OC then you need to. BIOS overclocking is the only way forward for a stable overclock

ya im usin bios gave up on speedstep was just trying to use it to change muti's but its no use. Whats a safe vcore ? and its wierd my droop mod seems to be gone with this cpu going to try to redo it.

Well I'm not sure if those cores suffer from overvolting, but I'd say on air keep it under 1.5v

Ya right now i droped it to 4.11ghz and vcore of 1.28 stable so far full day of boinc. I need to redo my droop mod i guess cause im drooping bad.
