Intel 730K Jackson Ridge "Overclocked" SSD

I'm now planning on a larger, faster SSD to put in my build and the Jackson Ridge jobby sounds pretty good:

Read Speed: 556MB/Sec, Write Speed: 270MB/Sec, Flash: MLC 20nm

And yes, it has a skull on it so, as an old goth, this also attracts me.

Are they worth the money (circa £130 for a 240GB one) or would I be better off with something else?

Also, having never cloned a drive before, how easy would it be to squirt my OS and other stuff over to a new SSD and have that as my boot drive?

Thank you please.

Not worth the money looking at the specs, the Crucial MX100 or the Corsair LX series are cheaper and faster.
The Crucial MX100 256gb is 550 read/300 write and ~£80. And the Corsair LX 256gb is 560 read/300 write and ~£90-100.

There are plenty of better performing ones. Samsung EVO lineup for example.

Not only that your not even going to see that skull logo are you o-o

And yes it is incredibly easy to clone a drive, there are even some docks that have that function built in. Though I would recommend that you just do a fresh install, not that hard.

EDIT: Please just ignore my post and look at the two on top, opened many threads at once and only got around to looking at your one just now.

Thanks peeps.

Just watched/read the Corsair LX review and the 512GB is a "Billy bargain".

If I went down the Jackson Ridge route I was going to mount it so that it was visible as it's too pretty to hide  (IMO).

Checking out TTL's review of the Intel SSD it came out with top scores, apart from price.

So, twice the capacity and some decent speeds for another 50 notes with the LX and just shove it in my bay or the Intel for looks and rock solid quality... :confused2:

go for this. The intel ones are really only worth it if you're going for looks above all imo. Hence why I'll be getting one in a bit as a display ssd . You could pick one up at a later date if you really like the looks as it'll be cheaper then.

I think that's where my dilemma lies - as, if I did get the Intel one, I was going to mount it behind the mesh side panel where I've already some blue LED uplighting happening...

At least I already have a boot SSD I guess.

I reckon there may be a 'coin toss' decision come pay day....

TBH I'd get an OS drive and a programs drive eventually if I were you B). That way you get the best storage/speed (the corsair one) then you also get the eyecandy with the intel one.

You crayzeee bananas!!

Yup, looking at bits that I don't need (white PSU amongst other things) and thinking about building my g/f a new machine as she now has my old noisy one... does this *ever* end? Heheheh

The 730 ssds are extremely fast at low QD's which is where they are most important. You will pretty much never get up to a 32QD load on an ssd. Where this shines is in the 4k QD and is why its still very fast because it processes those faster even though the other areas it may be slower in. For example, since its faster in the low QD area it can process those tasks the OS sends it quicker and get rid of them quicker( since its done quicker) than most other drives. Its pretty much a head start. I can't find the link but i remember in a video someone was talking about how these drives work. Though in all honesty any ssd is fast enough its not really a big deal.

I've not seen many differences in real world use between SATA III SSDs that have come out in the last couple of years. That being said the 730 is expensive but you get what you pay for: reliability, good performance (especially low QD as stated by above post), 5-year warranty. If any of these are important then by all means go for it.
