New SandyBridge Intel Xeons for socket 2011 now available to pre-order.

Can't wait to see how well these chips will fold which rigs start popping with these on a SRX

Will build when i win the lotto but until then its a no no for me

Never mind folding, would love to have a couple of the 8 core ones and a SRX to use for benching on HWBot. But as you said, i'll get when i win the lottery

Was thinking of getting the 2660 or 2665. How much difference in performance will the tdp make?

Wish I could stretch to those ones dug!

Stop posting groundbreaking news! I'm trying to get to sleep lol.

Good to know that prices are starting to be released though!

Is it just me or is that direct cu2 bending the mobo in the pic at the bottom

yup it looks like it

I think it's actually the CPU cooler bending the board downwards. (If you look at the picture closely, the right side of the motherboard with the PCIe is almost perfectly horizontal - it's towards the left side of the picture in which the board begins to slope down.)

Regardless...not the best photoshop I've seen in my time

Hmm. I've been looking into it and I'm not entirely sure how happy I am about the CPUs. Apparently there will be hardly any overclocking? So there won't be any point putting then under water.

I don't know how long I can be bothered to wait around to see if they released an unlocked Xeon. If someone has information to the contrary PLEASE persuade me otherwise. Else I may have to out some serious rethinking into my next build.

The one thing ive never understood im not sure the correct word. Would it be scaling? In these multi cpu setups

so if my 3930k has a theoretical max of 4.5ghz and its got six cores is that the equivalent of 4.5X6=27ghz and the difference in say the E5-2665 which is 2.4ghz with 8 cores so 2.4X8=19.2x2=38.4ghz. Sooooo no i have no idea how this works im just saying how i imagine it works thats less than 50% difference but at a cost of a second reasonably equipped 3930k system

Is my thinking wrong or am i close.

If a person is a dedicated folder (i havent started yet my syst isnt complete yet and my bros play silkroad non stop) in that case would it not be not only cheaper but more productive to have 2 3930ks running alone than 2 xeons running together. There is no doubt though that sr2 skulltrail srX they are all cool as hell
