Intel 18-core i9-7980XE CPU leaks

I Like the 18/36 core 7980XE

Spending upwards of £1000 every year on a single CPU, Probably £2000 per year going forward, Is a little insane dude, Go on a holiday, I know this is your hobby but there comes a time when an intervention is needed ^_^

I can see you at OCUK "Hey man, Got anymore of dem CPU's ? I just need 1 more I can stop whenever I want to" :p

Never mind the price. It will be a lot. Did you see how the threat of AMD just squeezed the releases out of Intel, and nVidia?

I need a more powerful CPU for gaming, my favourite game has managed to get the better of every CPU I own for the last 7 seven years and that includes my 6950Xs.

Civ I'm guessing ?

Yes

Civ5 late in the game with a huge map and big empire when the full map is revealed will flatten any PC. It is ok if you keep playing but if you want to save then reload there is no CPU that can handle it without crashing.

The game devs have got round the problem in later games by making you play on a smaller map and smaller empires, so much for progress in computer hardware lol.

Civ5 is also great for stress testing CPUs as it will knock over a PC a lot faster than Prime95.:D

But AMD suck and eat things that have been dropped on the floor etc.

Intel had a I9 lined up years ago, never saw the light of day because Bulldozer was so bad. It's funny how much AMD get ragged on, yet without them our lives are far less fun.

This is fantastic news. Well, not the 18 core stupid chip from Intel but the fact Intel are finally having a core enema. This means more highly threaded CPUs which means more support for highly threaded CPUs.

Intel have always had the CPUs they could release but never bothered due to lack of competition. Xeon CPUs will go straight into an X99 board, they just need an unlocked multiplier for normal desktop use.

Yeah I know. Which kinda just makes them look like douchebags really.

Ok here's my guess at the prices.

7640K ~£300

7740K ~£400

7800X ~£450

7820X ~£500

7900X ~£950

7920X ~£1100

7940X ~£1500

7960X ~£2000

7980XE ~£2600

Honestly I don't expect Intel to make any of the chip's at anything less than those prices, since they know that people will pay for them.

They will most certainly have to be cheapER than before. Whether or not that constitutes as cheap we will see. It's very good for every one though. It shows that Ryzen is good enough to have them sweating and finally they are releasing more cores. Either way I would not be interested, what I would like to see is all 16 threads of my Ivy Xeon being used. If and when that happens and if I see any sort of CPU bottlenecking I will probably go for a 16 core Ryzen.

Again, not so bothered about the clock speed because I would rather see core support. The devs have a long way to go ! right now we're pretty much on 4 for gaming. So my CPU is hardly being touched.

Plus I think there will also be a price war. Maybe not an immediate one, but once AMD get their fab machines running and spitting out those 16 core CPUs they will get cheaper and cheaper and cheaper. It's been a really long time since a CPU with that many cores has been mass produced by AMD. And their last ones weren't anything special either.

So yeah, I think I'm pretty much good for now. I will wait to see my 5820k, Xeon and 6 core Phenom 2 get some support, then when the dust has settled and the prices drop I will probably go big Ryzen.
