Installing xp (inc sp2) on a stupid sata drive

right, normally everything goes well when i install an os on a sata drive but not this time, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

i boot from the xp cd, pressing f6 at the right time, i load 3 drivers from the floppy disk, then windows does it stuff. it gets to the part of either making a partition or formattion (so the drivers are loaded as it can see the drive). now once i have finished partition/formatting it starts to copy the files. at the very beginning of this it tries to copy the files from the floppy, but it says it cannot copy them, the only way to continue is to skip the files. (it happens to only the sata drivers on the floppy). Now once it has finished copying the files, windows restarts, then just blue screens with a unmountable drive stop error. presume this is because windows cannot see the sata drive.

would be really grateful for any help as ive got to take this pc to the kid tomorrow :(

You need to reformat your floppy disk with the drivers and make sure that the inf files point to the right sub-files... I had that shit happen to me and it took me a few hours to manually edit the files to make it work right during windows install.

but if it can read the files in memory, surely it should be able to read them to the hard drive?

just to make things worse, i just puked!, hmmmmmm, nice :P

Use nLite to slipstream the sata drivers onto the XP cd. Then you don't need to use anything else when installing.

i used nlite before, but didint know if it would support sata drivers as they are used in windows at a different part to the rest of the drivers.

anyone any other ideas?

im kinda stuck and this machine was meant to have been delivered 2 hours ago :(

it just wont copy the files of the floppy.

Well, im sorted!

You know the XP CD's that you slipstream service packs, drivers ect. Well you cant use them if your gonna install sata drivers of a floppy. How stupid is that!!!

anyways, thanks for your help guys, i've now taken one stress out of my life :D

erm i just reinstalled my machine with such a disk and flopy drivers (lost ma int sata 1)

i actually sounded like the problem was to do with a corrupt floppy of broken install cd .. if the floppy worked on another install i was the cd u used man
