Installing Windows 7 from a USB

Guys, I have done a search on the www. but couldn't find anything relevant. Can someone please tell me what programs are left out of the Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit install, when using a Pen Drive?

I know you only need 8GB's, so I was wondering what was left off? I'm installing it onto my 60GB SSD so I was going to install it via USB to make the impact on the SSD less. Is this advisable or should I go for a complete install from the disc via an Optical Drive?

Thanks in advance.

Chris.

Oh right. I was confused by only needing an 8GB Pen Drive. The Windows 7 install (from disc) takes around 15 to 20 GB of space on the hard drive. Is it because the data on the USB is compressed, and when decompressed it totals the 15 to 20GB?

The data on the disk is only around 4GB you only need a 4GB USB drive to put it on. I have Win 7 on one of mine and it only takes up 3.75GB.

The data is just highly compressed but fully uncompressed it's about 15GB or something like that.

That makes perfect sense, thanks for the reply SieB

I also understand that installing from a Pen Drive is a much quicker process?

Yes I just bought an 8GB Super Talent USB 3.0 for £11 which I thought was a bargain. I'll be installing from the Pen Drive then

Once again SieB, much appreciated!
