Long story short, I've just embarked on the first stage of doing my first planned out build. eg, I've just spent a shed load of cash.

Here's how it's looking at the moment...

CPU: 3930k
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB Quad Channel 1866
Mobo: Asus P9X79 Pro
GFX: MSI GTX460 Hawk (from last rig)
Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC90LS (Due to RAM heatsinks, will be getting a h100 when my bank account comes out of it's coma)
SSD: OCZ Vertex 2 120GB
HDD: 2x 1TB Seagate 7200 rpm jobbies.
Case: CM HAF X
PSU: OCZ ZX Series 850W

additionally, I've got some white Bitfenix Alchemy extenders for the Mobo Power and PCI power

and all of this bar the drives and gfx card, is hopefully coming tomorrow! :dribble:

This is the first rig where I've ever made an effort with cable tidying, so hopefully I wont be too ashamed to post some pics of it tomorrow!

Edit: Please, if you think I'm being a muppet and doing something wrong or missing something out at any point - shout at me. Unlike Cold As Ice - M.O.P, I'm more than willing to take advice. :)

Very nice spec list. What will you be doing with this rig? I'm assuming a lot of thread hungry work and tasks that require a lot of RAM :D

Yip, a laaaaat of virtualisation going on! I've got 4 slots left if I encounter the need to move up to 64GB in the future as well. Though I'd rather sort the cooling and get a new GFX and faster/larger SSD first. :)

Gutted, just found out that OCUK haven't shipped the extension cables.
Why do I feel like a child that has just been informed that Christmas is no longer coming? :(

Nice, that's why I upgraded to 16GB :)

When are the extension cables coming?

wow if i had 32 gigs or ram id probably dedicate the 16gigs to run os and apps from :D

hafx is a huge case, did you consider any wc? a simple loop like, top rad, cpu, gpu, bottom 140 to pump to res and back to top. you can also get some wc heatsink for ram if its that important with virtualisation.

you missed out your psu, I assume you got a sufficient enough one to run this rig. vertex 2 arent best out there but certainly arent bad.

apart from that nothing i cant see anything wrong with it, good luck with it :3

OCUK haven't got back to me as of yet, but I'd imagine it'll be tomorrow now.
In regards to PSU, I've got an OCZ ZX Series 850W, should be plenty :)

Interesting you mention the Vertex 2, I always thought they were the best, appreciate the heads up, as I was thinking of getting a Vertex 4 sometime soon! What would you recommend in it's place? (it'll be a 256 or 512)

I've never been interested in it before, as I've only had midi towers until now, and been far too fiddly for my liking. Saying that I've just seen G-Dubs' NZXSPC build and that looks astonishing, so never say never....

Good news! These Just arrived :)

Bad news: Case also arrived, but had been dropped on it's back bottom edge totally bending the metal out of shape - so a new one is arriving tomorrow and that one is going back. Hopefully the cables will arrive as well!

I'm sure you'll be fine, but OCZ products tend to break quite easily. You should have gone with a BeQuiet, Corsair or Seasonic PSU.

I got that PSU over a year ago, had no idea back then. If I were to do it again, I'd of gone corsair - big fan of their products. Almost got a 600t, but I really wanted to move away from midi cases.

Right, everything else arrived today and that meant only one thing. Build time.

Everything went pretty smoothly, cable management was a dream in the HAF.
Just need to sleeve off some of the cables I couldn't quite hide well enough (front panel headers & a fan cable), but other than that I'm fairly happy.

The only thing that was/is a pain is the Phantek cooler. The performance is terrible, looking at stock idle temps of 50-55 and don't even go there in regards to load. I've turned of Turbo boost for the moment to help but I'll be purchasing the H100 *and 40 fans* ;) sooner than expected (tomorrow or Monday) :)

Anyway, here's a pic. Please let me know if there's anything you think I've been a complete muppet about or that you think could be improved!

not sure about the red ram, but a very nice build non-the-less :)

I tried getting some blue sticks, but I could find any blue quad channel anywhere. Red is a bit of a clash - do you think it'd be better if I just went for it and cabled it up in red?

looking really good mate

Very nice job dude, it looks fab :)

Thanks, totally forgot to take some before pics but trust me, it was chronic. :P

Edit: Managed to the the H100 today, all fitted and looks great - temps much more to my liking now :)
