increasing voltages on my GPU (Blue peter badge for those who help :))

hi guys

Ive just successfully reached my limits overcloking my 8500 gt. it wont go any further because i need to increase the voltages.

im just wondering weither this is safe at all? apparently in some threads you have here if you increase the voltages of your cpu or gpu for a time of about one to two years, they become dependant on the increased voltage? It like a mobile phone if you think about it, if u keep it charged all the time it becomes dependant?

i wont to push my oc more on my gpu but im looking to hand this card down in the future or possibly sell it

if anyone can help ill give you a Blue Peter badge lol :D

Changing the Voltage of the GPU is not like changing the CPU Voltage.

You need to either volt mod it with a soldering iron.

Or modify the bios to give it more volts.

I would leave it if I was you. What are you gaining anyway? The 8800GT can run most things easy. ;)

ah right i see. i thought there would be setting in bios!

ive gone from 500mhz core (default) to 810mhz core and 400mhz ram to 512mhz :) using the thermalright hr-03 rev a

not to bad!

i can run cod4 on high easily now :cool:
 
tbh from my experience of overclocking gfx cards ive found ive never once had to play with voltages. GPUs are much more efficient then a CPUs, the whole card is so much better as long as you can manage the heat you can find you can keep pushing and pushing it.
 
Wow, nice clocks. Although, It would be dangerously unstable playing games at 60%+ overclock. Wouldn't it?

What an achievement though, Go you. :D
 
Awesome clocks there.

As for more, you would need to volt mod the card, which would require soldering. Unless you are trying to go for some LN2 records, I wouldn't really bother.
 
Not to hijack the thread but when overclcoking Am i right in assuming no matter how far you pusth clocks (within stable limits of course) the temps are the same as your not adding more volts, am I right?

p.s thats a great overclock bye the way!!
 
Nup.... Things heat up regardless as it's running faster. Upping the frequency it operates at heats it up without extra voltage.
