Increasing Video Memory Possible ?

Hi Friends !

Sorry if this sounds foolish, but just wanted to request you to kindly guide me a little on my below question -

I have 3 GB of RAM and a XFX 8600 GTS with 256 Mb, now what I wanted to know is - Is there any possibility that I can allocate some of my System's RAM to my Graphics (Video) Card so that it has more memory ? (Like 512 Mb etc ?)

Also is there any other way that I can make my Card run faster without causing any damage to it ?

Actually, my Sys Config is as below and I just want to be ready for some of the big games releasing this Year End... kindly advice...

Intel Core 2 Quad q6600

3 GB RAM

XFX 8600 GTS 256 mb

Creative SB Audigy4

Thanks again for helping !

Regards

Kush

Unsure about assigning system RAM to gfx, someone else will answer that - I'd say no off the top of my head!

YOu can overclock your gfx card using a program called RivaTuner which will improve its performance

I have no doubt that somewhere in the industry, there has been found a way to add u`r system memory to the memory u`r gfx card can use. Something akin to using the pointers for the whole pool and lieing to the reference table or something.

Would be slower. Would be a hack, probably involving firmware changes. Would no doubt be very unstable due to drivers getting confused, besides the rom of the gfxcard.

A more realistic answer to u`r question would be no.

Not true actualy, it is possible.

I know in vsita it does it automatically. When I was usingh 4gb of ram and a 256bm 1650xt, it would allocate enough rma to make the available ram on my 1650xt to 2gb's.

So, yeh, you can jsut use vista :D There is likely a way to do it in XP anywho.

In vista it just acutomatically does it with no way to turn it off, it doesnt take from RAM unless it needs it.

Without vista as I said, no idea.

It put my 7950gx2 memory up to 726mb though.

That`s bizzare, I put Vista Ultimate on a 256m gfx card rig (with 2g of ram main memory) and it remaind @ 256.

How did it take u`r card up to 726 ? and if u can`t turn it off, how u turn it on ? cos obviously in my example case it didn`t pinch anything.

I was using vista premium 64bit and 4gb of DDR2, that may of helped I guess, but im 100% sure I know what I saw, it was like it for 3-4 months, afterall.. lol
