In need of help

NeverBackDown

AMD Enthusiast
As the title says, i need help with a peculiar problem that has baffled me as of last night and today. Straight to the point then?

Last night after some gaming I decided to head to sleep. As i am in the process of saving and shutting down all my open programs my PC without warning shutdown. Now thankfully i was on my way to the shutdown button so nothing was lost but I turned the PC back on too see what happened. After about another 2mins i get another shutdown. Now i panic a little and boot into safe mode. Stayed in safe mode for about 5mins at idle waiting to see if something happened, nothing did. I went to Event Viewer and looked at my events(go to event viewer if you are confused. makes more sense).
I looked into my "Critical" events and a "Event ID- 41; Source- Kernel Power; Log-System.

Now i see that and the description says
"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

This confuses me because i did not shutdown the system and the previous time i did I hit shutdown while no programs were open and did not force the shutdown. System was responding, did not crash, and i had power because my TV and stereo were still both operating.

Looking at my system logs again and double clicking on the kernel 41 error i come across this.

(regarding the picture)Now sorry if you can't see it. I'll explain it if not..
Basically it has 6 total events of this kernel 41 error. Starting from 9/12/13 and the the next 5 times were on: 9/17/13, 11/6/13, 11/26/13, 12/1/13, and today 12/2/13.

Now i know this has happened before but not 6 times?

I checked all my connections earlier and everything was fine.
I next checked my temps of all my hardware using HwMonitor and everything seemed as if nothing happened except my SSD. My Corsair GTX 240gb was at 46C.. 46C... Very hot for a ssd despite being rated up to 80C(or 72C? I forget). My other Kingston Hyperx3k 120gb was only at 31C which is were it stays. Next thing i know as i keep looking through the temps my PC crashes again.

I now think my reason for this annoying crash is the Corsair SSD due to high temps and automatic shutdown. I even moved my ssds around from the back of my R4 and into the storage rack to help improve temps, which it has drastically. My Kingston is at 26C now but the real big difference is from my Corsair which on boot up started at 30C and crept up to 35C and now has slowly backed off to 28C and has stayed there since i started typing this post.

Temps have dropped but has stability? I even backed off my CPU oc from 3.6 to 3.5(3570k on stock cooler. Best i can get with temps) but still crashed earlier. Now i know its not the CPU and the memory is running at 1600 with CL9-24-2t and has been since the PC has been built, so it cant be the memory. My 7950 is running on a small OC and it has never given me a problem so I think its safe to rule it out.

Now as i am using this computer it has not shutdown yet. So everything has gone better i assume? If it happens again it's either 2 options. SSD or Power failure(according to Kernel 41 and MS website). What do you guys think i should do? Also what do you think the issue is? I'm no software fanatic and i do not understand the kernel and stuff like that(just navigating i can do) so anything on that i will need help with.

I will take this to customer support through Grey Beard if possible and need be but i would rather figure out the problem first. Thanks in advanced!

Sounds to me like it could be a power supply issue either the power supply itself or you may be getting brown outs in your area which could cause issues. I was getting weird power issues myself at one time so I put a UPS on my system and have had no problems since. Also try swapping out the power cable running to your SSD as it might? be an issue if not at least it's one more step crossed off the list. Hope this helps.

Brown outs? Care to define what that is?
Never though of switching the cable. Just came back and did just that, used the previous one from my other ssd and its working fine so far so the cables aren't an issue. That is another crossed off my list and the other ssd as well thank you!

UPS are very expensive an unfortunately with Christmas here i have no money left due to getting gifts and such. When i can afford one are there any you would recommend?

Here is a link describing what a brown out is.

I have times when the power flickers but doesn't go out.

A good UPS is the first thing I bought before I built my system.
I did some research before I got one , this is a link to the one I have.

It's a little over kill , but has worked flawless for me. I have about 30 minutes of run time on the battery. I have my computer , printer , 2 - 24" monitors , 2 external hard drives and a Klipsch 2.1 speaker system.
You could find a less expensive one though.

The Cyberpower unit that Mark3Max has recommended are supposed to be very good units, I myself use a Socomec UPS and find it good although it's only a simulated sinewave.

Well Thank you both for the help. Now my computer is starting to get worse even with lower temps than before. I can only use it for less then 10mins if i am lucky and now have to resort to my laptop to come and post here.

Now a UPS may help but in the end if my computer is doing this regularly then i doubt a UPS will benefit me. I am starting to think my psu is starting to die. Considering it is a Seasonic 650X unit i am very shocked and surprised it has started to die. With such a high warrentey and quality it should have lasted longer.

I do not have a PSU on hand to swap out with. None of them would be able to handle the amount of power i need to maintain the system. Buying a new one for a suspected reason does not seem very ideal. Any thoughts on how to fix this? Or should i just reinstall windows and see if it is actually a OS issue?

I think it's possible that the repeated brown outs may have damaged your power supply. I'm kind of surprised that 5 or 6 times would have done it though.

The thing is i don't have brown outs.. All my other plugged in electronics never shutoff when my PC does and continue to work.

I can not RMA the PSU. I do not have the original shipping of the product unless i can just send it from any kind of shipping box?
What i can do is us the PSU my parents got for my brother for Christmas and test my system with that. I have a feeling it will work indicating a PSU problem.
I think in the end i am probably going to need a new PSU but be out of using the PC for a long time, probably till January or February. Which is what i want to avoid but may not be able to do so. Reason being is i am only 17 1/2 and unemployed and jobs are hard to come by where i live.

I figured out the Kernel 41 only appears because the system would shutdown randomly so therefore it is not an OS issue. I won't even bother turning the PC unless i need to now so i do not damage the parts.
