In Hall Of Fame In 3dmark2005

Wow, major congrats, awesome work and awesome score!

Got any pics of the rig!

Well done, my hat goes off to you, you should be damn chuffed with that!!!

Cheers my friend.

I'll whack off some piccie to post here for ya.

WARNING: My rig aint pretty, in fact compared to most systems I see it's darn ugly - plus the office is a mess so I need a tidy round first before I post, so hopefully in a few days I'll have somehting to post here.

For a muscle machine it's more Chewbacca than it is Hercules :D

Nice one Phil. although I guess the reign will be short lived with 7800's just around the corner.

Not sure whether to invest or not? 7800GTX sounds good but the ultra's will be 90nm and probably have 32pipes instead of 24 - I guess I am hoping someone finds that they are all 32pipe with GTX's having them disabled but can be unlocked with RIVATUNER ;)

We'll have to wait and see.

200points off the HOF, using official drivers and following my tips and tweaks thread may help you my friend.

Cheers

Your just guessing now, all we know is the 7800GTX. I personally wouldn't get one, they don't look that impressive. ive seen one for preorder in the US, for over 600 dollars Im guessing they will be at least £400 here, and seeing as you c an get a X850XT PE for 300quid these days, it's not worth it. id wait and see what ATI come up with.

Anyways, nice hall of fame result.

I think Futuremark need to sort it out though and have a SLI top 20 and single cards, top 20.

Don't forget the GTX won't be Nvidia top model. The X950XT should be pitched against the 7800u while the pe should be compared with a ue

Very impressive :) Congratulations to ya!

Agreed, and extra fields in the "project search and compare"

I agree with everything everyone has said here.

There are rumours a foot in ati and nvidia camps - although it would be great for me if I am proven right in all of my 'suggestions' ;) Time will tell.

Hall of Fame - If scores are achieved using Futuremark approved drivers - nothing more nothing less then they will be there. Disablling certain features to get those scores may deem your result invalid and hence why it does not feature there.

In fact if you disable certain features (post processing for example) the score will not be shown anywhere but on your webpage.

Keep benching though - dont forget to join TEAM EP-UK and post your scores using mbot in the becnhmarking section to help TEAM EP-UK move up teh league tables.

Why are pre-release scores so important?

In my humble opinion:

I feel that Pre-Release scores are all marketing hype, especially those that are not official releases from the manufacturer, rather individuals that have been 'selected' to do so

.

None of the scores achieved are done so using Futuremark approved drivers so how do we know that they are not optimised to produce a massive score in that test?

Or say Nvidia wanted to demolish ATI in Half Life 2 - They would produce a driver that would excel in that game (ati already did it in Doom3, the results were not convincing but it makes a point) - purely for the accolade, we see the scores but have no idea of the optimisations they are using.

This applies to Nvidia and ATI, we can only take these scores as a rough guide and then wait for the real deal to be released.

I think that 32 pipes will be available from both companies at the same time with nvidia releasing 24pipes in the interim to 'fill the gap'.

People predict 7500 points in 3dmark05 for nvidia 24 pipe and 10k for ATI 32 pipe - nvidia unzip their flies on 22nd June, ATI are said to be waiting.

To be honest, I say RELEASE THEM ALREADY!!!

Hmmm, you don't know that though. At the moment it is the flagship.

It seems pretty likely that most of the rumours we are hearing are true, the one's I believe are:

7800 will have 24 pipes and scores 7500 in 3dm05

Ati are having production troubles and R520 will be in short supply (mainly due to low 32 pipe yields and xbox and nintendo commitments)

32pipe nvidia cards will be released at the same time as Ati's

Both 32 pipe cards will be overpriced and under supplied until after xmas

Crossfire will be better than SLI.

One rumour I am not sure whether to believe is that there is another SLI type technology about to be released which is claimed to be better than both???

Mav

The guy I was chattin to was under non-discolsure agreement, all will be revealed shroty I was told.

It lead me to believe that another chipset manufacturer was designing an SLI technology and this one (unlike VIA's effort) was gone wipe the floor with NF4 and ATI Xfire.

Apparently he can release the details to me next week so I'll keep you informed.

Cheers
