if you are thinking on getting a gigbit router you need to have cap 6 ethernet cables rather than your standardcap 5 for 10/100 based networks. also on your motherboard/comp you need to have a gigbit ethernet adapter to full utalise it

unless it is stated as gigabit ethernet then yes it is 10/100. not many mobos have gigabit ethernet onboard (but my new one does :) ) you may be better off buying a gigabit NIC as they are under £20 and well worth the added bandwidth.

yepp quite true

i am going to do a gigabit network and have a wireless backup paid with my money!! :o so when my parent pull the network cale i will have wireless!

i already have a vast 10/100 network serving 7 pc in the block !

naw Cat 5E cabling will suffice But the gigabit routher must have a chip that supports the bandwith of all the connections u wish to implement i.e. if u have a 2 Gb capable chip and 3 comps connected full bandwith will not be achievied but if u were to have a 10 GBit chip and 3 comps that would be fine (u could even implement double connections on any possible server connected to increaser the backbone speed to 2Gb on 1 of these routers)

ok tks sai jao i was thinking of making my amd 64 3200+ as the back bone once it is the best pc in the network ;)

erm..so your internet connection is networked with 7 other people in your neighbourhood? so yu pay for their interent?

128kbs internet and trying to get gigabit lani have a 256 /256 and once i know these are adults they dont waste much of my bandwith

lol is your internet only 500mb i download 500 mb in like one day usually

is it better to have cat 5 e or cat 6 ?? i have currently a cat 5 e setup and someone told me that cat 6 supports higher speeds than 54MB per sec?!

you need cat6, cat5e i dont think can do gigabit speeds ;)

your connection will not be fast with 8 pcs jacking in... is there a home priced router that can pull off 8 connections.. assuming you all have only ONE pc... which those cheap f***s must have...
