IDnet Bandwidth checker

I had been working on this little project for a while but havent much time to spend now due to work.

It's a little program that will grab your bandwidth usage from the idnet website. It stores it in a ini file. I haevnt had time to make a gui to display it or anything. Perhaps someone who haas the time could make a objectdock thingy.

Anyways, just fill in your username password in the settings.ini file and then run update.ini, it should create a ini file called data.ini.

Please remember i'm still learning to program, so dont be suprised if you see any bugs.

update.exe

settings.ini

Hope it's of some use to someone!

O and post back to say how you got on with it, thanks!

EDIT: for some unknown reason, if the ini is corrupt, it should look like;

[IDnet]

Username=

Password=

on idnet the "bandwidth usage" is updated on the start of RAS or something tho isn't it, so to be accurate you would require a reconnect to re-initialise the RAS and update the website.

I'm not on IDNet anymore tho.

But then I only use about 6gb/month or something :)

yes, but you would be suprised how many drop outs your router has. But all the above tool does is log into idnet's website and parse the information. It puts it into a ini file in the following form;

[Data]

ActivationDate=04 April 2006

GBDownloaded=13

GBUploaded=1

GBTotal=14

EstUsage=32

EstDownload=30

EstUpload=2

When I was on IDNet, I'd agree, the number of dropouts was stupidly high, so the bandwidth usage on the site was probably only 3hours out.

That is one of the reasons I'm not on IDNet anymore. That and the 200+ms ping and at the best pings of 50ms to uk servers :(

when was that?! most idnetters ping very well to game servers, especially ours

I was on idnet for 2 or 3 months, posted on the idnetters forum loads and also loads of people were getting the exact same problems.

I changed to another ISP and suddenly I ping 16-20ms to the idnet OC3D servers where on IDNet I was pinging 40ms if I was lucky, which lasted 30mins before the ping went to 200+ms again.

I went thru all the "it's your router", which we did a survey on idnetters and there was over 7 different routers and 5 different chipsets having the same problems.

I also got the "it's BT" aswell. I was on the phone to Simon most nights, but it never got sorted.

One of the reasons I left tho was the constant bickering from one of the now moderators who was always moaning at people who were having problems.

Since then I've also found out he was the one who was trying to kick and ban me from the OC3D servers.

Not sure what the reason is/was.

Yep I get <40ms on almost all

EDIT: Well the only one who could kick/ban you would be a clan member and none of them are IDNETters apart from me who signed up when I was asked

i meant drop outs due to how adsl max works. My ping to other servers has always been top notch, my ping to the 2 oc3d servers is 17!

anyways, back on topic!

It was a votekick and voteban which obviously failed as no-one voted and the person quit off the server :( not seen him on since tho and I still have the condump.

Hey I too was getting the ping problems but its near enough become extinct. Equk, which mod do you mean? I know maxping had an arguement with you but I didn't think he had counter strike source though.
