i7-2600K @ 4.4GHz - voltage opinions

Hi guys,

So, finally putting that K to work and currently it's running Prime95 for quite some time now at 4.4GHz at 1.320v (in CPU-Z), max temps on all cores (in C, CoreTemp): 83, 90, 90, 86.

Tried 4.6GHz but it required quite a bit more voltage and the temps got 1C below the Tj max so I cut that out. 4.4 was what I was aiming for anyway.

Erm not to be rude, however have you checked the contact between the block and CPU? As those temps seem awfully high.

If you make your H80 mega noisy just for benches and see if you can get it stable - if you can get it to pass then it may be worth getting an upgraded cooler.

H110i GT or the H105 would be my top end choices

Right, will do! Any benches you can recommend for a rainy Sunday afternoon? Prime95 has been running for a couple hours just fine now

Cheers for the cooler adivce, recently I have been looking at those two, in fact, however mounting it on the top of a HAFX doesn't seem to be the easiest thing to do, there's not really screw holes for it, I think.

Well the chip isnt exactly great.

I know it's not the best out there :) but it seems to be holding its own.

Why not just switch to an air cooler? Ive got a cheapo Coolermaster EVO on my old 2600k and they temps are pretty good (though I did change the fans to a set of Phanteks)

I used to have an air cooler on the S775, but like the closed loop cooler loads better, for looks as well.

As for the chip not exactly being great, I tried to upgrade but you guys stopped me :p (wee joke)

Haha, well honestly the 2600k at 4.4 is perfectly fine. With DX12 coming soon there is little point in upgrading to a new chip when you dont require its features. Just gotta wait for games to start using it.

He he! Well maybe for the lower power usage it would be nice upgrade; that would be an upgrade, power consumption-wise, I think.

Anyway, I should take back the H110i not easily fitting the HAF X; it does but you can only use 4/8 screws, according to this bloke:

Just drill a few holes if it doesnt fit ;) Only take a few min at most.

Or get a decent Corsair 760T glass case and have everything better (including CPU cooler backplate replacing)... Watching TTL's vid now

But I digress...

As to making the H80 really loud, well, it's running on full speed already.

Well the h80 should be giving you better temps than you are getting, so something definitely isnt right.

As for the 760t, it is a beautiful case that I much prefer its design over the 780t. Each to their own though.

Yeah I really do think the thermal paste needs replacing, but even better would be, as Tom suggested, the entire unit. You reckon it's okay to keep this overclock while gaming before I have the high temps sorted, or would it be looking for trouble?

Yeah I like the 760T better myself as well. It's only € 189,90 Euro...oh dear...

Well try replacing the TIM first of course, however if it still doesnt fix the problem, why not just drop the OC for now until you get a better cooler?

With one of my cases cannot remember which one, I think it might have been one of the Coolermaster Cosmos cases but the holes didn't line up with the rad properly.

I ended up drilling them out abit and just using washers to fit the rest of the screws needed.
