so ive got a I5 4690 3.5mhz Its not a K model. would this still be able to overclock? it has a boost of up to 3.9mhz is that the overclock cap? or is boost different to overclock?

thanks

You can overclock the multiplier and thats what you need to overclock these - so sadly you cant really do much with it.

Dont touch the BCLK its just not worth it

well that was a quick reply xD thanks. but as long as i can tweek it a bit i.e the boost?, im not too fussed. im only doing 1080p gaming, im dont have the funds or the living space for 1440p or 4k :P

Why even overclock in the first place then dude?... I mean, you said yourself that you only do 1080p gaming. I used to have an i7 2600K 3.4GHz and now an i7 4790K 4.0GHz... I never overclocked the 2600K nor this one and yet never experienced anything faulty or so. It absolutely crushed everything I threw it and throwing at my current one.

I just got the K version cause I could and because I MIGHT try on overclocking in the future and thay way I have the possibility to, due to having the K version.

Boost is the overclock dude - making that higher is overclocking - so sadly no other than what Ive said you dont really have any options

well when you get something you always wanna try and push it to what it can do..so why not overclock? :P i understand that its not a K model and i get that, but if the possibility was there then id do it :)

True, but since the K isn't a overclocking one, then I don't honestly really see the point of "trying" to push it... since it's not designed that way, hence the K model exist.

And Tom has basically said it all and we all know he's the Walter O'Brien here :)

If it were possible, there wouldnt be nearly as many people buying the Intel extreme chips. Would just get an xeon.

Just be happy with what youve got. Even without overclocking, it will run games perfectly fine.
