I know this has probably been asked about hundreds of times before, but at today's prices, is the extra performance from the 3770k worth the extra money?

I found good deals on both processors:

i5 3570k: $189.99

i7 3770k: $249.99

So... Is the 3770k worth the extra $60?

Thanks

couldnt vote theres no 2600K option :D

basically it all depends on if you need the hyper thread options for just gaming the 3570 will be fine. if you plan on vid editing or what not that requires the extra cores the 3770 will do ya better

Is there any way I can edit the poll?

I will be using Adobe After Effects, so I take it that the i7 3770k would be better?

Yeah, Hyperthreading will be good for editing and rendering. Those are monster deals btw! ;)

Yeah, both are deals through the end of the June at MicroCenter. I live right next to one too, so I got super lucky.

I find MicroCenter is kind of weird with their prices. Sometimes, they offer super good deals, and on other stuff, their prices are way above average.

Did you find these prices at MicroCenter? If so i hope you know it's a pickup in store only offer. If you knew this then an i7 is my vote if any rendering is going to happen.

@Shmeediesel, if I were you I'd edit the OP so people can see that you'll be using it for rendering. Most people assume that everyone on here is a gamer and some vote without reading the thread :p

I read the thread. After i clicked post his post appeared on top of mine so as i wrote my post his already went up and i did not refresh the page.

I am happy that i went with i7 CPUs, i know myself that i will use apps that may or will need multithreading, i have only 1 i5 CPU in a rig for my kids where they want to play games [not ready yet with games and updates], but i am worry that one day they might want to go with those multithreading things besides games then maybe that i5 reach limits, but when i was thinking about it, i5 is good enough for gaming and so so for other things, i7 is overkill for gaming and good enough for other apps, then why not going with overkill and be happy in both worlds, gaming and non gaming.
