strange crackling and distorted sound (distorted as in barely audable, its more of just crackle and garbledness) tried everything i can think of, the only thing i could try is reinstalling windows but i think 3 hours of constant CSS loving killed it (just cant be botherd with reinstalling windows tbh)

audigy 2 ZS by the way, can anyone recommend a good <£100 replacement?(note: im a gamer through and through) im currently using the DFIs onboard sound but it doesnt really sound as good

i dunno if you could hold out for a 24-bit card so can i suggest an audigy2zs platinum? there about £100 off the bay.

It's unusual for that to happen - I have blown up alot of components but never a sound card.

You can get another Audigy 2 ZS at reasonable prices brand new or off ebay for less than £40.

Before you do anything try re-seating the card and make sure you have onboard audio disabled in teh BIOS (not set to Auto).

ive tried changing pci slots, reinstalling drivers, cooling the card down incase it was to hot, left comp off for a few hours as well, the only thing i can think of i havent tried is reinstalling windows (ive also checked everything else like headphones and speakers/amp but there fine)

i think 3 hours of css in this heat wave could well have put it over the edge(it is quite old now as well)

sounds **** mate, id try the reinstall if it were me, but by the sonuds its bitten the dust

just get an oem audigy2zs, mine cost me £42inc, sound

;) only two pci slots on the board to try as well, i suppose my soundcards the oldest part of my system so its about time i upgraded

best gaming soundcard for use with headphones/2xspeakers?

Have you checked the connections on the speakers ?

And also the connectors from the speakers to the sound card ?

I know its basic, but its an easy mistake to make, as the connections on the Audigy2 ZS aren't colour coded.

yep, checked all that, and they are colour coded because i got a nice sticker thing that goes over the sockets :D lol (retail one if that makes any differance)

audigy 4 is a tad more than i want to spend sas ;)
