Ok, 256mb of RAM just is NOT cutting it. I keep about a billion programs and folders open throughout the day and my computer just runs like a friggin' dog. I decided to check the specs on it, and of course, it's only got 256mb of RAM. ARGH! Time to put in a request to IS for more RAM!!

Who do you have too go to about that? The majority of people would think your asking for a sheep or somthing...

i think 256mb is low just for the bare windows, let alone all that stuff open and pretty high res pic as a wallpaper :p

"256m is more than enough. Might I suggest some simple house keeping, and perhaps not having 50 million docs open at the same time."

hehe u need some sdram there m8y ? got gigs of it dusting away on a shelf here :p

it should be a crime for a pc to sell anywhere with anything less than 512mb of DDR or better, ram...

EDIT: noticed the F@H icon in the taskbar :D

EDIT2: frag, couldnt you just buy some ram, and slam it in there by yourself when nobody's looking? :D lol

hahahaha i get it

XP will use about 256mb of ram just idling if it is allowed to (over 768ish) afaik so 256 total doesnt really cut it. And I expect the HDD is a snail as well so the page file is going to be about as useful as a chocolate kettle .

I'm not going to waste my hard earned money on RAM for a work computer that I can have upgraded for free through the IS department, hahaha.

It's just a PITA and takes like a month for them to get things done, so that's why I have yet to put in the request. So lazy.

As for housekeeping, no... I use all of those, at the same time, cant close em :p

Wish I could argue that they aren`t, but I can`t.

I tend to find the "non computer" IT guyz are the worst. Ask em what pc they got at home and either they aint got one, or only their son has or they bought one from pcworld 5 years ago. compaq something...

U think it`s bad w8ing for them, u wanna be in amounst them w8ing. I usually try and circumvent them.

Our upgrade department has an 8 hour SLA on fixes :)

Yeah, we use a similarly based Siemens system, in all fairness it`s far too easy for some peoples to meet the SLA times by commenting on a job b4 it goes up a level, but I find all too often "waiting for parts" - and they can be in the stores or there are no parts to be w8ing for. And `pending` gets them out of being too busy.

Gotta check that ebay stuff and utube obviously !!!

Some like to keep 5/6 jobs in a queue to make themselves apear busy on the management console - I rather clear them asap tbh, keep my queue empty.

Ye well this isn't our external engineers who look after our "fixing" - this is our own team who will just go and replace the damn thing and image it :)

We keep a rather large stock ya see (over 20k+ assets and you kind of need it ;))
