I need advice on upgrading my rig...

Hey all,
I'm going to be upgrading my rig soon and have some questions... And yes I'm planning an overkill rig!

1) Will the Asus Rampage V Extreme fit in a NZXT S340 case?
2) With the specs (Asus Rampage V Extreme, Corsair Dominator Platinum (8 * 8gb) @ 3000 mHz, i7 5690X, Titan X SLI, SSD, M.2 SSD and HDD, plus all the extras like AIO, Corsair Link with all fans / case lighting connected) can I still use my Corsair HX1000i PSU? Will it handle it (including getting the full capabilities of the system e.g. stress test / gaming)?
3) Are the cables in this kit longer than the ones that come with my HX1000i PSU? http://cablemod.com/product/cablemod-c-series-axi-hxi-rm-cable-kit-red/

Thanks in advance, Jamie

1. Sort of, any reason why you arent getting a better case?
2. Yes
3. Should be the same length, measure it or check.

I see. Well from experience the S340 is not very compatible with the Extreme V. In order for it to fit you will need to remove the plate that is in the middle of the case and you will also be blocking off its last card.

You can still do it though. I was quite fond of the S340 myself. Chuck a 280mm AIO at the front and voila, you can chuck a GPU that will vent as much heat into the case as it wants and as long as your exhaust is good enough, which isnt hard really.

Wouldn't it just hit the PSU instead?

What would hit the PSU? The last card?

If so, me thinks you need to look up this review here

There is a nice little shroud covering the PSU and lower section.

I meant the bottom of the motherboard, this is what my current setup looks like...

Sorry when I said the last one, I meant assuming one would want the full features of the board (4 way sli). Kinda what I meant by not very compatible, sorry if it wasnt very clear.

For your case (as in situation) due to you only using 2 Titan Xs, you would be fine. You are just gimping it though.

Why not just go for something like Skylake or whatnot? After all, unless you are wanting to go 3-4 cards, you arent really going to need X99. Skylake etc is just as good for most things.

Ahh far, I'll more than likely add a couple more Titans X's to it later... So it will fit not problem ATM? Any cases similar to the S340?

ATM with only 2 cards, YES. However 3 will be the limit. Though frankly if you are going to have 3, you WILL need to get a different case and watercool them, otherwise....

Why not just save yourself the extra effort later and get a more flexible case now? After all you said yourself you are more than likely to add more cards, of which would be impractical in the S340.

I own all 3 and overall I like the H440 White/Black the most.

However if you want good airflow (no custom watercooling loop), definitely go for the Fractal cases instead.

If you are going to go custom I would suggest the H440 (quietest) or the Define S.

Though frankly if you are wanting to watercool potentially 4 titan Xs and an overclocked 5960X, you should get much more than a total of 720 rad space.

I have just bought an Asus Rampage V Extreme, and I noticed two bent CPU socket pins... Well as Asus manage replacements even third party returns, do you think I can still get a replacement even if I attempt to fix the problem "temporarily"?

So I've managed to line the pins back up but they are not 100% it's hard to tell the difference, but it's definitely there... Check these images out to see what the pins were like:

I guess the question is should I make the pins like they were again before returning or not?

If you have only just bought the board, you could have just returned it to the vendor for a direct replacement. Anything within 28 days will be dealt with directly by the vendor. Personally i wouldn't have "repaired" the pins, can potentially do more damage than good.

You can always try to RMA it. But I read of a lot of cases where they refused warranty. Especially Asus.
Have a look at this article http://www.gigabytenordic.com/bent-pins-covered-warranty/
It's about Gigabyte by I would assume Asus has the same stance in this matter.

Unfortunatly you have to prepare yourself that in the worst case you are screwed.

That's what I've done... The question was would they still accept it if I tried "fix" the problem...

What you guys thinks so far?

Getting better / more RAM soon, and three Titan X's...

Also has anyone had this problem before? I'm using the MSI 780 OC Twin Frozr and everytime I play a game (can be any game) the sound slows down and pops a lot, I have latest drivers, any ideas what's causing this?

Here's a video of the problem: http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=1z1aext%3E&s=8#.VgbaLxNViko
