First I'd like to thank |3ourne for his tutorial on lapping cpus.

I followed the tut exactly and got my D830 all shinny but I don't see any drastic decrease in the temp so far. Is there anything wrong with my lapping?

Here are the pics of the process:

Apparently the surface was not really flat...

For me the lapping process seems to be pretty good but my temp remain the same as before lapping. Did I waste my time or can I do anything else to improve?

TIA

lapping looks like a good job well done

on the temp side dont worry too mutch there wolnt be allot of difference though you have to take into acount the time the paste takes to set, eg Ac5 will take a long time to cure but temps will fall later on

That looks fooking beautiful!

Really nice job!

I agree with Deathwish, wait for he thermal greese to set! ;)

It is most likely to be thermal paste not cured yet but it is possible that you have taken the surface down a little too far, meaning the contact is SLIGHTLY worse between IHS and the HS base, meaning there will be a tiny bit more TIM in the gap.

Whats the fixing method on your cooler?

I use AS5 between the CPU and my waterblock...

What is the usual decrease in temp after lapping a cpu, 2/3 C or over 5C???

Well I hope that I didn't lap too much!

One thing I noticed is that the temp is fluctuating much less since I lapped the cpu.

Well the decrease seen depends on just how bad it was to start off with, yours didnt look too bad, so maybe ~2*C (total guess) whereas the celeron I lapped recently went through at the edges before it was flat.......

Just try tightening the waterblock screws a little more (make sure theyre done up evenly) and leave the AS5 to cure tbh

Thanks I will try to tighten the waterblock a bit more and wait for the AS5 to cure (around 200 hours, right?)... will report back when it's done!
