HTC reduces Vive VR headset pricing by $200

Nice. Hopefully they mirror this in Aus. So far all we have is $100 AUD off - down to $1299.00 so it's still nearly twice the price that the US pays. This deal should equate to $760.00 AUD +shipping. They're all manufactured in Taiwan anyways so why would that be different to the states?

£599 on the steam store ($599 should be about £460 if they uaed actual exchange rate) so still out of my price range sadly. If they matched the Rift's current price then it would be a no brainer.

Still, it's a step in the right direction!

Nice prop but still out of my reach for a while yet.

@Gurnicus, thing is iirc the $599 doesn't include tax but if it does then it is about right by the time you add 20% tax on to the UK price.

Steam in the US doesn't include sales tax in the price listed on the store page, they aren't required to by law, each state has it's own sales tax percentage, and each state determines for it self if online purchases even have sales tax (I think most have started taxing online sales though).

For the UK you still need to include VAT. The US does not include tax in their retail prices, whereas the UK does.

Including the VAT in the UK has the conversion be around $1 to £1 typically. Overclockers UK has reduced the Vive to £599 from around £780.

Even with tax it only takes it up to $830 AUD. I Need to find a friend in the states!

And here's me thinking the US always get better prices.
Thanks for the informative comments, it's much closer than I assumed in price ;o)

Latest for Aussie enthusiasts is $999.00 which isn't too bad considering. Still more than the $650 for the rift but it's a step in the right direction.

Both companies are saying that 2nd gen VR is still at least a year away so it's a good time to look at them. I imagine they're waiting for GPUs to be powerful enough for the average consumer. They still need to achieve higher resolutions at 90+ Hz per eye

If you find a friend in the USA like I have you won't even pay tax ;)

Law in the USA is that if you buy something on the internet in your state (and it ships from your state) you pay tax. Otherwise if it ships from a different state you don't pay tax but you are 'supposed' to declare it once it gets there and pay the tax on it.

It's because some states have no tax (DE) and some have higher tax (CA).
