How should I ship my NZXT Switch 810 without the original packaging?

Hello,

I will be moving to the UK to study and I want to take my computer with me. I have the NZXT Switch 810, but I no longer have the original packaging it came in with. Any ideas on how I should package this case?

I am also not sure if i should send the computer with certain parts inside, like the MB, RAM, CPU, PSU, and detachable stuff like GPU, CPU cooler and hard drives on their own, or if everything should be sent in their original packaging (all except the case).

Thank you,

Atham

If you have a large air cooler remove it. Also remove the GPU and PSU as said.

But leaving a heavy CPU cooler on is just asking for disaster.

I am just having difficulties finding the right size box for the case. The NZXT Switch 810 is pretty big, and I do hate the fact that the original box was discarded.

I have the Noctua NH-U12S cooler, so I guess I will be taking that off.

Do what I did when I moved to Norway. Lots of bubble wrap and place it in a large cheap suitcase with "fragile" stickers all over it.

Remove GPUs and anything else that can be dislodged if bounced about.

A suit case? Did you ship it via airplane or freight? Or did you take it with you on a plane?

I took it on the plane with me when I flew. It travelled in the back with the rest of the luggage. Came out the other end fine with a single scratch or piece out of place.

I guess the fragile stickers worked ;) because I've seen first hand how some of the workers treat the luggage handling.

I brought home an Alienware from the USA in a suitcase but I went on a boat so I got to keep it with me at all times except where they loaded it on. I unloaded it myself.

On a ship it can be as heavy as you can carry there are no restrictions.

I see. I was thinking of just having it shipped to the UK, since I will be completely moving to study in Scotland. Does anybody have experience shipping it?

Yup I shipped a bike out to the USA broken down into its original box. Just prepare yourself mentally for anything that can be snapped off, broken or cause enough drop force to snap something (like don't leave your GPU in the slot it will rip the slot off clean if it gets dropped) and so on.

They don't mess around with cargo. It literally gets chucked around like mad.

Personally I would get rid of the case (the weight will add more $ to the cost of shipping, probably making it impractical) and then pack all of the internals in a suit case and buy a new case when you reach your destination. It will be much less hassle and cost that way too. See, when you import things (like my bike in a large brown box) you will get charged tax and airport fees on top of that too (because you don't collect it from the airport you go to the cargo center).

It's expensive dude. Had the bike I owned not been worth nearly £2000 I would not have bothered as it cost me around £260 to get it out to the USA in the end.

And the irony? I crashed it after about ten minutes leaving myself badly injured lmao :D

I was thinking of shipping the components together with other things that I will be shipping like towels, clothing and other items that I am taking from home. Would it just be better to take them with me as luggage?

Yes. Remember, things like towels are heavy and have a low $ per size/weight ratio.

If you think it through carefully and pack with bubble wrap (poor size but great weight to $ ratio to send) and then just buy the cheap/heavy articles once you arrive. Things like towels and so on are five and ten a penny in the UK dude. Ebay is your friend :)

You also need to call the airport and airline and ask them what their weight restrictions are. Back in the late 90s when I did my thing it didn't matter but planes have really raised their weight restrictions so that they can carry more cargo as it's worth more money than physical passengers.

So if I was to take the components with me on a plane, should I rather go with a carry-on or just put it in a bigger suitcase? I don't want them opening every single box to look at and damage my components. But at the same time, they components might get damaged if i put them in a check-in bag.

if it was me, I'd flog the case itself, package up the rest into smaller boxes and ship those separate or in a reasonably sized box in their original boxes if possible. Then buy a case when you get there.

You'll probably save a lot of money that way. Shipping something the size of a Switch 810 is going to cost far more than necessary for residential shipping.

Yeah I am fully convinced that it is better to just get a new, cheaper case, and start from there. Any good cheap cases (up to around 60 pounds?).

Phanteks have great stuff or a Define S from Fractal. Love both companies and there stuff. Wouldn't eally consider anything else tbh, but that's a personal opinion
