Having done his voting in the poll frenzy, Ham goes back to doing what ever it was he was doing before.

I spend a good deal of dosh on a 2GB DDR kit a while back and boy it made a difference. I'm back to 512Mb temporarily as my 2Gb kit gets RMA'd - it SO painful alt+tabbing :(

Alt tabin with 512 yikes, I nearly crashed my computer alt tabing in bf2 with 1gb of ram....or at least it seemed like it.

For the general use of home users, no.

Regular game players will need atleast 2g, going forward. 4g would simply negate any considerations that memory is holding u back at all (as long as the mobo can use it at the speeds required) - I do believe that a simple game like the football management types will run alot smoother, with all leagues used, @ 4g.

However, the likes of Excell being such a poorly written piece of software, I see it working alot better the more memory it has. Sound editing likes alot, understandably. I would say gfx editing too, cept most I`ve seen use Macs for that, with a fraction of the requirements.

Believe the ceiling for XP is 4g, don`t know about Vista. I`d`ve thought Vista would let u go up to 8g, I know some users who`d benefit from that. Does it ? I dunno.

We use some 4gb E6400 HP systems with x86 32 bit windows in em, just above sp2.

They`re wasted to be fair as they don`t have up2date drivers in em or anything >.< They have to be ""vetted"" drivers etc Often just WMD, oops WDM, from install cabs.

What`s Vista`s ceiling ?
