Just interested in how many processes people have running from start-up in everyday computing. Also do you terminate any when benchmarking or does it not really make any difference?

I personally have 21 processes from start up.

34. Which is bad for me. Usually 26-28, but I`m running Norton, which adds a fair few.

I find that disabling everything in services and startup under MSConfig makes a fair chunk of difference for benchmarking. Especially the CPC benchmarks because they restart the comp between tests.

Bloody hell Fatty! What do you have running? I haven't installed my anti virus software yet so I assume that would mean at least another one for me. Most of mine are svchost.exe

Lol, that's more processes i have now and im using the computer for many things lol.

I would check mine but i would have to reboot and i cba atm, computer has been on for 135hours now so could prob use a reboot. 42 processes running atm, i am using the computer and havent got it setup for benching (too much hot weather + laziness lol) so probs about 35 for me.

Will post real number when i reboot.

Just had a look at mine and main rig has 44 processes :S

Things like steam, one touch, anti virus, msn etc add up :(

Think its time for an Msconfig.

My Shuttle has 40 which is not much better :(

26 at the moment, but i could close, msn, irc, steam, tkc, firefox, windows media player, ultra mon and ventrilo if i was benching, so 18 technicly

For my bench image I have around 18 processes running - for day to day stuff I reckon it's 30+ (u gotta protect urself u know).

A trick that might help some benchies:

In XP press start - run - enter

Now type in msconfig - enter

Select diagnostic start-up.

Restart computer (takes longer to boot mind).

Your PC should now run with around 7 processes, chipset and display drivers only (all other services are disabled) so minimum load on ram and you're ready to go.
