How Large Of A Power Supply Will I Need?

Basically, I recently built a PC using the Coolermaster GX 750W PSU that came with my Coolermaster HAF X case. What I want to know is will I be able to stick another Gainward GTX 570 Phantom Edition without having any problems?

Rest of the specs are as follows:

Intel i7 2600k @4.3 GHz

Noctua NH-D14

G-Skill Ripjaws X 8GB (2x4GB)

Gainward GTX 570 Phantom

Asus P8P67 Pro R3

Samsung 1tb HDD (yeah it sucks lol)

So yeah, I was basically just wondering if I could set up another graphics card without having to upgrade the PSU as well.

Also if it is not good enough of a power supply what one should I go for? I don't care if it's modular or not

Thankyou in advance.

My old corsair hx750 is powering sli 570s now... But i has heard bad things about the cm psu but in theory it should be able to power them if it has enough connectors

I have had the feeling that CM PSU's aren't all that good but never actually seen someone say that they are bad. I would have gone for a Corsair modular PSU but I couldn't pass up £165 for a 750W PSU and a HAF X bundle lol. Oh well, guess I'm going to have to gamble it unless someone tells me that it can't be done.

Well the PSU is on par with prices of other non-modular 750W PSU's and I haven't had any problems so far so hopefully I will be ok

Cm GX series psu has a bad rep, some reviews couldnt get it running at max load and was up to 100w short.

Hi,

I was about to post that I'm using a Corsair HX750w to power a 2500k @ 4.6 and two GTX 570's @ 800 core just fine. I'm the person who's using Ruthless's old PSU as he mentioned.

I'd have assumed that a Cooler Master PSU, being from a respected brand, would be fine to do what you ask. However I was not aware they had any sort of bad rep, but it is on the cheap side so I guess that says something.

I did have a CM GX650 in my rig before I went SLi - so effectively powering what you have now - and it worked flawlessly.

Personally, if your GX750 has 4x PCIe 6+2 pin power connectors I'd expect it to be able to power a 2nd 570. 570's draw about 220w stock peek according to the specs, slightly more when OC'd. I guess it's a case of try it and see.

Best of luck,

Scoob.

I had a Cooler Master 650w Extreme Power Plus PSU running a tri core 2.8, HD 4870, it said on the box it was silent.... Well that was complete crap, even at idle it was the loudest thing in the case, even louder than the 5 120mm case fans I had lol

Kind of a personal question, but is it possible to tell how much an individual component draws on the rail? I think that would help the OP. I would assume a single 570 draws 18.3 amps (220W / 12V = 18.3 A). How about his CPU? The OP's PSU allows for 60A on the 12V.

Wow great to see so many responses from people that clearly know what they are talking about.

It's hard to explain this, but on my current income it doesn't really matter about having to drop say £140 on a new PSU it's just a case of getting another GPU in 1 week or 2. What I am REALLY worried about it the PSU damaging any of the components if it is forced beyond what it is comfortable with and starts to go out of control.

I currently have my 570 at 851/1702 with no voltage adjustments but I doubt I will need to OC at all if there are 2 of them in there, so if what Scoob says is right and they will only be pulling 220W each then I should be ok even if the PSU is only really comfortable going up to 650W.

I think I am just going to risk it.. :/

You should be fine. An 850W Corsair PSU can do dual 580s easily (244W or 20.4 Amps each). I don't think you are really risking much. You would only pulling 3/4 of what the CM PSU can pull on the 12V rail (46.7A of 60A, depending on what your i7 2600K pulls. I estimated 120W).
