How is the P5B's southbridge heatsink affixed?

Hey all, just curious to know what material Asus has chosen to affix the southbridge heatsink with? I have tried to use a bit of finesse and force and it doesn't seem to want to budge.

Any clues as to what has been use or tips for getting it off? Seems that if they were going to permanently attach it with adhesive why use the retention clips? It must come off eh?

Thx in advance!

It's not permanently attached. When I took mine off it had some silver gunk on it, bit of a wiggle and it came off ok

Yeah, in the Army most non-commo guys still favor the 'Hit it with a hammer' approach if something delicate isn't working right...

Seriously, just well applied torque like Kemp said... should do the trick. Or you can be like me, not take the chance, and deal with it.:D

its probly just crappy thermal paste thats end up baking rock hard, ive foudn that a lot with NB coolers. just twist it gently for a while, if your feeling adventurous try using a thin razor blade carefully and level round the edges( like i have the right to lecture people on that lmao). should come off with patience and a bit of nerd muscle rotation methinks.
