How good is abit's AudioMax 7.1 HD riser card?

Since we were just recently talking about craptastic onboard audio with Ty's problem I thought I'd make an inquiry to anyone using an AW9D (and/or MAX) whether or not they like the AudioMax riser card. Does it have the same issues as other onboard audio chipsets with the poor quality (when overclocked or not)? It looks like a nice little kit, but is it just fluff? I sold all of my good soundcards when I pieced out my old rig, and trying to figure out whether or not I should pick up a real sound card for this new build.

Thx in advance.

It's not bad. It doesn't suffer from the onboard sound problem and the fidelity is pretty good. However: stick in a decent sound card (Audigy 2 ZS or X-Fi) and you notice the difference. For me the sound was a little "harsh"

Rgr that, sounds like it will work out ok for me then as I really will only be using it with my headphones for gaming. If I were planning on using it for music/movies, etc then I'd probably think about slapping in a good sound card.

When I was looking into Abit boards, the revies for the AudioMax said it was pretty good but obviously if you upgrade to an X-fi or something it'll provide better quality. If your like me though and not a major audiophile then it should work fine.
