I am hoping someone can help me, I used to have a Abit Quad GT AB9 motherboard and 4gb DR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory CL5(5-5-5-12) this would getting me a vista rating of 5.9 on everything.

My mate made me a decent offer for my motherboard so I moved to a slightly new chip set with the Gigabyte P35 DS4 I also bought some Geil Black Dragon PC2-6400 800Mhz 4GB Kit (2x2GB) CAS Latency 5-5-5-15 Supply Voltage 1.9 - 2.4 V

Vista has given this a memory rating of 5.6

Can anyone give me advice on how get the best out of this ram using a Gigabyte P35 DS4?

Or have I made a big mistake in my choice of mobo and memory?

Cheers

To get the most out of any piece of hardware you should overclock it. Do you know how to do this? Change your ram divider/up your fsb...

If you aren't comfortable OC'in you can tighten the timings e.g 4-4-4-12. This may or may not require you to increase the voltage.

If your ram is rated to 2.4v then whack the v's up to get the tightest times/highest frequency.

Use memtest to see if it is stable with maybe some orthos blend testing too.

Not really sure what I am doing, any advice or settings would be great.

OK, what don't you understand from my previous post??? Some of it? All of it? Throw us a bone!

You'll need to go into your bios, to do this press delete during boot up.

You'll probably need to turn your memory settings from Auto to Manual. When you do this more options become visible... I'm at work/tired so can't really explain atm.

Ok I have gone into my BIOS and the board is picking the memory up at 1.8v 5-5-5-18

I changed the settings to to 5-5-5-12 and 2.1v and all is fine. When I change to 4-4-4-12 2.4v and save changes all I get is on boot bad checksum error.

So far those are the only settings I have changed.

Afaik, the voltage will help when u push the hertz, as for the timings, I honestly don`t know.

At a guess I`d address it like oc`ing a new cpu that ur unfamiliar with. So if u got 5-5-5-18, try 5-5-5-16, test it to be sure it`s happy with that, and so on.

I`ll put my hand up tho, I`ve not experimented with memory much. "Working" is about as good as it gets with me.
