It certainly is,

The story behind the games aren't far off - Reactor 4 lost control under testing and blew the city sky high.

Stalkers actually visited the city almost exactly the same as they do in the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. except without Artifacts, Mutants and other obviously fictional additions.

that was awesome, I love the whole abandoned city without being too disrespectful,

Its sad but in some weird way awe inspiring.

Kinda strange how Chernobyl is actually filled with wild life now.

But "50,000 people used to live here, now it's a ghost town." had to be said

I found out about this a while back when I was interested by the whole Chernobyl event after playing Call of Duty 4.

I'd like to go and see it for myself.

the pictures do make it look erie,it would be a good place to visit to take it all in.

it is crazy tho how it is now

you wouldnt want to stretch out on the grass for the afternoon. The grass is deadly around here

I cant see it being a popular tourist destination - Fascinating read though i certainly wouldnt want to visit there

I noticed that when googling it, was genuinely shocked by that.

I personallu wouldnt consider going somewhere where I couold potentially contract radiation poisoning but i imagine others arent too concered and would be fascinated by the history of the place.

Yes, it’s one of the most popular 'unconventional' tourist spot in the world.

I remember years and years ago watching documentaries on it and then reading up on how thousands of people across Europe died due to radiation poisoning (causing odd cancer) and how British soil has only recently reached a level of radiation that is satisfactory to export our meat.

Edit:

I also found it fascinating that the liquidators that worked on the core, only had 5 mins max to work and then they weren’t allowed back for months.

I have been saving like a madman so I can go to Chernobyl, Pripyat, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, and do the "Nuclear Tour" for my 30th birthday.

Its a little over 3 years away, and I am really looking forward to it.

Of course, I could just blow my savings tomorrow for an i7 rig and an a70 to put it in...

A little more info for you!

Stalker is loosely based on a movie by Andrei Tarkovsky of the same name. Its actually a beautiful, and surreal, piece of work. I'll just post a link to the Wiki in case anyone wants to read about it. It IS available on DVD btw, and I must stress that its NOT a shooter, but that doesn't make it any less intriguing, or the events and environment any less wonderful.
