I am running out of space on my drive C and I have noticed a lot of hidden directories in the windows dir and I wonder if I can safely delete them without affecting my system.

$NtServicePackUninstallIDNMitigationAPIs$

$NtUninstallKB896424$

etc...

I believe those are the directories created for the updates. so do I need to keep them or not?

Also there is a directory named installer inside windows can I delete this one too?

Deleting all these directories and files will free up to 1.2Gb on my HD... so I am pretty eagger to get rid fo them!?

TIA

I wouldn't remove them, I believe they are uninstall data.

Seconded. Other things you can try though: disable hibernation and delete the hibernate file, reduce the amount of size available for System Restore backups, and go down your Add/Remove Programs list and get rid of anything you don't use anymore. Also, I know it's somewhat inconvenient, but somehow whenever I do a reformat, I find some extra GB's, even though I thought I put back everything I had on it before...

Worse comes to worse, pick up an external HD; you can get one for $60 nowadays, and pretty decent size too if it's on sale.

Black Friday ?

Meh laptop is crazy full atm with just 60g, the thing I`m finding very hard to teach myself is that I DON`T need all the shizzle I`d normally hold onto with meh regular pc. Install stuff, delete the install stuff - u`ve got it on the desktop pc. Just have the music u`r in-to atm on it, and not 50000g of stuff that u listen to once a year. Take the photos off u`r camera and keep em on the desktop pc, just keep the newer good ones on the laptop, and so on. It`s very hard to train u`rself in this.

thanks, afterall I am keeping those uninstall files etc... but I got rid of my itunes library and I got back 2Gb on C:

my laptop is used for my work mainly and I keep only softs that I need, no extra unfortunatly. And all new versions keep asking for more and more space...

I am deleting the old uninstall libraries after about 2 weeks - because at this time i have been installing some new stuff ...

also these are only microsoft uninstall libraries.
