hi guys

i have currently 2 x 512mb cheap ddr400 unbranded ram

now, i really didnt want to spend any money on ram, until i move to the new platform am3(?), but the thing is i want to play gothic 3, and have just upgrade my processor and graphics card and gothic needs more ram

so i have 2 x 512mb ram

is it better for me to buy one more stick of 1gb, or 2 more 512mb or ram?

The best was to do it is 2 x 1gb sticks.

But if you can get some matchnig cheap stuff then you can run that @ 2T timings

does the motherboard support dual channel? if so i would go for 2 x 512mb if it doesnt support dual channel, then i guess it wouldnt matter too much.

If your question is - "is a single 1Gig better than 2x512Meg" then I would say yes it is :)

Depending on situation.

If it's 1gb single channel vs 2 x 512mb dual channel then the dual channel wins

If your mobo isn't dual channel then the single gig is ok

i know the best is 2x1gb

but i already have 2x512mb, should i add on 1 more 1gb stick or 2 more x512

my mobo of course supports ddr, so will it be working at ddr?

also my system is oced quite a lot x2 4400 @ 2.8ghz

Well I'm assuming you run a divider already...you'd have to set the RAM to 2T, but you would be best with another 2 x 512mb sticks than 1 x 1gb

EDIT: Try to get the same make/model etc

Yep!! I think with ASUS boards, to be able to keep your dual channel support the RAM has to be installed in matched pairs. So for 1Gb you would need to install 2x512 in slots A1 and B1 (the first slot and the third slot). For 2Gb you would either install 2x1Gb in A1 and B1 or 4x512 in all slots.

You follow the same procedure for up to 4Gb
