Hex Gear R40 Cooling

Hi.

I'm after some advise please. I've watched many OC3D Youtube videos and Tom always says get on the forums for advice, so here goes...

I'm currently planning a water cooling build in a Hex Gear R40 case. I plan to have a 360 radiator in the bottom and a 240 radiator at the top and a single 120mm fan to exhaust at the rear. I was thinking about having both the radiators as intakes, but this would leave only 1x 120mm exhaust fan in the rear (there are no fans in the front). Does anyone know if this would have any detrimental effect on cooling, as it will be a lot of heat being put in to the case. I originally thought about having the bottom radiator fans as an intake and the top radiator fans set to exhaust. I was concerned that this would mean the top radiator will be drawing in hot air from the case and lower its cooling performance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Work with convection, which means have the bottom rad as an intake and the top rad as exhaust, and have the rear fan as an intake too to ensure positive pressure. Don't forget dust filters on all the intakes.

Thanks for taking the time to offer some advice. I'll go with your suggestion. I didn't really think about using the rear fan as an intake. Many thanks!

I'd advise against having both radiators as intake. You can easily override convection with high static pressure fans, but there is no point when following convection is functionally possible. I would suggest switching the rear exhaust fan to intake and blow cool air underneath the top 240 radiator that exhausts all the hot air out the top. Setting the rear fan to exhaust is also fine, creating equal pressure. It might be worth testing the two configurations once the build is complete to see if it affects temperatures at all. Either way I don't suggest having that much hot air dumped into your case. While using recycled air is not ideal, it is likely better that what you are suggesting.
