Help with first overclock.

Hey guys,

I'm hoping to overclock my CPU today and just wanted to know some things about overclocking. I know how to do It but don't really know how hot I should let it get before not going any further or how much to push it. I'm using a NH-D14 with a i5 2500k and just wanted to know what you think I should overclock it to for my first overclock.

just try 4.5 first imho and then bump up the voltage until its stable, remember to set your ram to specified timings/mhz, turn internal pll voltage on, dont go over 1.4V

Hi,

Ok, this still hasn't moved so can I direct you to this thread?

In it the same question is asked and the OP is now happily running at 4.5ghz.

Remember, with Sandy B. it's FAR simpler than you'd imagine for the most part. Check out my advice (I post my settings) and that of the others on this thread. DON'T be tempted to change several things at once, just one thing at a time and test.

I got so frustrated when helping a friend of mine as I'd say "Change multi & reboot" he'd then go off changing 101 other things - like he did when overclocking previous gen stuff - and end up in a mess.

Have a read of the thread, it should help you. In essence what Ruthless said is right, but reading the thread will pad that out a little.

Good luck, and do start a new Thread in the CPU Overclocking sub-forum if you're struggling.

Cheers,

Scoob.
