Hey, ive just recently started with a problem.

When i open or install programs, or play games or music,( or record sound)

the mouse pointer becomes very jerky and laggy and the sound slows down or skips. I'm on windows xp pro 2002 edition, Pentium 4 Prescott 3.00 ghz running at stock atm, and 1 gig of ram. Ive tried re-seating everything, to no avail. i wonder if perhaps its slow seeking times or fragmentation of the hdd causing this? Any help woudl be appreciated.

For one, do you have onboard sounds? Also, are all drivers properly installed, you may want to try a reinstall of them.

in my experience, laggy mouse pointers and general unrelated system instability can sometimes be due to hard drive, what are you using and how old is it?
