kk guys

im being a noob here most likely.

ive got a DFI LANPARTY UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert

im not sure how the hell to get the s/pdif out working.

ive set my amp to see the s/pdif coax in as the "cd" player.

and ive downloaded the newest nvidia drivers/program for the s/pdif.

im using the nvidia program atm as the realtek one seemed to suck.

im getting NO sound output whatsoever on the amp from this setup

PLEASE give me a step a step instructions on how to do this cus im just getting more and more frustrated by the minute.

Have no experience of the card, but my first poc would be to check the config/preferences util that installs with the sound drivers. Checking to see if it either needs to be turned on or un-muted or similar.

Then I enter banging head against wall stage.

what bitstream is the SpDif outputting?

for a lot of non Dolby/DTS decoders you NEED to set the mode to 2 channel and ensure digital sound is enabled ... please provide details of the amplifier/decoder

the amp is a pioneer 1016v-s

but i think the problem is on the PC......maybe its trying to output on the analogue, not on the digital

the sound card is an onboard DFI one....

i get sound on the analogue 3.5" jacks, but no out on the s/pdif

I think jumper JPS2 should be set to "2-3 On: S/PDIF-out via nForce4" if you don't have the Karajan Audio Module installed. Check the 'S/PDIF-out Settings' section in your mobo manual for a diagram.

its set to the nforce 4 jumper as default...

maybe i should try it with the ALC850 (which is the realtek one)?

Other Settings

The Input Assign menu

You only need to make settings in the Input Assign menu

if you didn’t hook up your digital equipment according to

the default settings for the digital inputs, or if you have

connected equipment using component video cables.

1 Press RECEIVER on the remote control, then press

the SETUP button.

An on-screen display (OSD) appears on your TV. Use /

// and ENTER to navigate through the screens

and select menu items. Press RETURN to confirm and

exit the current menu.

2 Select ‘Input Assign’ from the System Setup menu.

Assigning the digital inputs

• Default settings:

Coaxial - 1 – DVD

Coaxial - 2 – DVR 2

Optical - 1 – DVR 1

Optical - 2 – TV

Optical - 3 – CD

You only need to do this if you didn’t hook up your digital

equipment according to the default settings for the

digital inputs (see above). This setting tells the receiver

what digital equipment is hooked up to which terminal so

the buttons on the remote correspond to what you have

hooked up.

1 Select ‘Digital Input’ from the Input Assign menu.

2 Select the number of the digital input to which

you’ve connected the digital component.

The numbers correspond with the numbers beside the

inputs on the back of the receiver.

3 Select the component that corresponds with the

one you connected to that input.

Select between DVD, TV, CD, CD-R, DVR 1, DVR 2 or

OFF.

• Use / and ENTER to do this.

• If you assign a digital input to a certain function (for

example, DVD/LD) then any digital inputs previously

assigned to that function will automatically be

switched off.

4 When you're finished, press RETURN.

You return to the Input Assign menu.

Assigning the component video inputs

• Default settings:

Component 1 – OFF

Component 2 – OFF

Component 3 – OFF

If you used component video cords to connect your video

equipment you must tell the receiver which device it is, or

else you may see the S-video or composite video input

instead of the component video signal. For more on this,

see Using the component video jacks on page 14.

1 Select ‘Component Input’ from the Input Assign

menu.

2 Select the number of the component video input to

which you’ve connected your video component.

The numbers correspond with the numbers beside the

inputs on the back of the receiver.

3 Select the component that corresponds with the

one you connected to that input.

Select between DVD, TV, DVR 1, DVR 2 or OFF.

• Use / and ENTER to do this.

• Make sure you have made audio connections from

the component to the corresponding inputs on the

rear of the receiver.

• If you connect any source component to the receiver

using a component video input, you should also have

your TV connected to this receiver's component video

MONITOR output (downconverting component video

is not possible after assigning an input).

4 When you're finished, press RETURN.

You return to the Input Assign menu.

System Setup

1.Surr Back System

Enable your Spdif >> set ur PC to 2 channel (i assume it doesnt have DTS connect or DDL)

Inset the Coax Cable to the "Coax 2" port and select DVR as CD is your "Optical 3" port

Yeah, if there's definately no output from the S/PDIF-out port then it's worth a go. Good luck!

EDIT: I should have said try the 'via ALC850' jumper setting with Audio Module installed, but you probably know what I meant :).
