Help on choosing new mechanical keyboard

Looking to buy a mech. keyboard. I've only tried red switches on my brothers keyboard, but I love the sound of blue most... But im afraid the very loud clicking will annoy others when im on skype - has anyone had such experience?

I've tried finding an online retailer for this keyboard due to its pricetag, but it seems impossible. Its supposed to release sometime next week.

Im open for suggestions. Blue switches is not a must, I just like the click-sound. Would be lovely if it was backlit aswell. I dont wanna spend more than £70, but even less would be preferable (if thats even possible)

i love blues myself, but if you are afraid the clicking will annoy people go for browns

Well I am. But if someone has blues and use skype alot, and havent had trouble with the other end complaining maybe im overthinking. My mic does have "noise cancellation" after all, but no idea how much it really cancels. :p

Any reason to go for brown over red/black?

brown are quiet, i cant see people getting bugged over skype about blues though, i though you were on about other people in the room or house

Nono, no one in the house should be able to hear the keyboard from my own room. ;)
I was worried about when in Skype calls. In more or less 90% of my gaming sessions its with someone else while Skyping, I figured they'd turn insane having to listen to the clicking from blue switches... Thats why I wondered if someone who had a mech. keyboard with blue switches has ever had this issue with someoe they Skyped with. :p

blues are indeed hella annoying over skype, since skype is 'always on' it'l pick em up ;) I know someone (YO SPS) who's keys even get picked up on his mic on Teamspeak *I will smack you if you don't sort that out*

Thing is though, just go with what you like typing on

I've got blues myself, did have reds but made too many typos on it really, it just became more of an annoyance.

The blues are far nicer to type on than reds. Long gaming sessions on blues however can start to ache your fingers a little, especially on something like FPS games if you spend a lot of time hitting shift with your little finger to sprint.

Not tried browns myself, but from what I gather they seem to be the best of both worlds. Quieter than blues, nice to type on, lighter than blues so no strain during long gaming sessions.

It is best to try a few out first though to be honest. I really liked my reds at the start, but as soon as I'd tried blues for typing it's easy to see how inferior the reds are for typing.

Thats what I was afraid of. My mic does have the whole "noise cancellation" but obviously I dont know how much it really cancels.

I must have read wrong then. I thought blues were the lightest and easiest to type on? Is brown even lighter (doesnt require as much pressure from your finger)???

Right now I have a "regular keyboard" - wouldnt any mechanical switch be less "tirering" for my fingers? Including the one on shift.

I use a Corsair K70 with cherry reds and I gotta say I love it, it's easy to type on and great to game with the key presses are quite light and it's easy to use

The blues are pretty heavy I find.
They are really nice for typing because you have to press pretty hard in order for the keys to register a key press.

As you can see from the .gif, it's pretty easy to press down until you hit the 'bump' and then it becomes a fair bit harder. This means when typing, you make very few typos because if you just catch a key, it won't register it - (reds on the other hand register pretty much any slight catch).

Because it's heavy after going over the 'bump', that's what makes it tiring while gaming, especially if you're holding shift or something to start/stop sprinting all the time.

Reds and Browns have a 45g actuation force.

I'd simply recommend Browns, they are the best all-rounder; however, they are not just a silent versions of Blues, they feel very different so just bear that in mind.

I find cheap Blue keyboards feel 'dirty', it was only till I switched to a Filco did I really appreciate them.

i recommend reds for gaming, no fatigue at all and very nice to type on. i don't find i make random key presses either i think you just get used to it. either that or i'm just more accurate than most? i have no idea

My brothers is red and frankly I dont like it - I do too many typos when I use it.

Im not sure it the soreness would be a problem, I think I would take that risk - the biggest issue I may find with blue is either...
1: not being able to handle the noise
2: not "reset" the key when I spam the same key (because the "reset" point is higher than the other switches).

Have you ever tried this? (the reset issue)

That only makes it even more difficult, haha. I thought browns were identical to blues, but without noise and slightly easier to press.

I guess one could learn not do typos even on red, practices makes master.

As you can see in the gif below, compared with the blues where the contact quickly enters and leaves the clip, the browns have a linear tactile motion as the position of the extension directly corresponds to the height of the key.
