Help Choosing RAM

Hey, guys. I need some new RAM. I'm having a hard time choosing what RAM to get. I've been thinking of either getting 4GB Mushkin Redline 1600MHz 6-8-6-24 or 8GB OCZ Gold 1600MHz 8-8-8-24. I'm open for all suggestions as long as it's low RAM that fits with the Noctua NH-D14. And is it true that you don't get as good over clock on your CPU with all RAM slots filled? Thanks in advance.

Budget is not really an issue as long as it's within £170. Keep in mind stuff here in Norway is expensive.

That first sentence didn't make any sense. xD

Edit: I know I can unscrew the heatsink on the Dominator and Dominator GT RAM, but it looks stupid and I'd rather have some RAm that actually fits. And the Dominator RAM is over priced. As well as the Dominator GT.

Without even taking the timings into consideration I'd opt for the Mushkin Redline if its within your budget. I've always had a soft spot for Mushkin and their kits seem to be very reliable. The fact that the timings you posted are much tighter than the OCZ's is also a nice bonus (if only for slackening straight away to release some more OC potential)

As for the more slots filled = less OC potential, yeah that is generally how it works. But you can lessen the effect with tweaking.

That's true, Jim. I just feel as it would be a dumb choice to go with the Mushkin Redline because with the OCZ Gold I do get 8GB and not 4GB as I do with the Mushkin Redline. That's why it's hard to make up my mind. But my brother, my friend and you recommended the Redline either way, so I think I'll with that then.

I have to admit I overlooked the 4GB vs 8GB in your post. But I still stick by my suggestion tbh.

Having run an i7 with 6GB and a i5 with 8GB as my main systems in the past, I'm happily sitting here running 4GB of DDR2 on a C2D E8400 and haven't really noticed sod all difference.

Get the Mushkin, clock the bolax off it and enjoy a very nippy PC
