Hello you knowledgeable bunch!

Got introduced to this forum through XMS on CS:source, he's a nasty one with the P90 I tells ya! I've had a little look on a few threads and I thought I knew a fair bit about PC's...... turns out I don't!!! I have never got into overclocking, I simply upgrade the system so I am probably not pushing my machine properly. I shall be reading this forum while in work and hopefully pick it up! :D

I'm a bit of a hardcore gamer - playing until around 4-5am usually! I'm playing CS:source at the moment quite a bit, but really I am waiting for DOD:source!!! I loved DOD on the half life engine as it was so well balanced and such great gameplay, I hope that will be included with great graphics and physics in source! :ar: Anyone else looking forward to this???

Also I play Warhammer: Dawn of War - anyone play this? I just think this is an awesome RTS but needs balancing!!! Orks are shite at the moment and they get :awhip: :awhip: :awhip: :awhip: :awhip: :awhip: :awhip:

I'm currently having a few issues with my 6600GT at the moment that I hope you guys will be able to give some advice on - I'll go into this more on another thread! Well thats my intro done, think I rambled on a bit but I put it down to the lack of sleep!!! I'll leave ya with a question - What games do you guys play?
 
Welcome to :anisx: mate! Glad you had time to swing by and check us out :)

Take a gander around the forum and do some reading about overclocking... Once you think you know enough to get started, push your system a bit and let us know what happened. And of course if you run in to a bottleneck or a problem of any sort post up and let us know, we're eager to help troubleshoot your problems!

I play CS:S (you've pwned me a couple of times ;)), UT2K3, BF-2 (waiting for more RAM so I can play it higher and better ;), Doom 3 sometimes, Farcry, HL2 and the occassional painkiller. Looking forward to DoD:S too - maybe we'll get a server up and running with it :D

Hello mate, glad to see you made it here. Thx for the P90 big-up :D You are pretty handy with your chosen weapons too ;)

I play mostly CS:S, UT2K4, GTA:VC and some oldskool games like Resident Evil.

Lets see if we can help ya with ur 6600gt probs , and get your baby overclocked :D

Kempez815 - Nice lineup of games there, all good for testin ya machine! I've started playin Battlefield 2 a bit - not a bad game. A low ping, 64 player server would be sweet!! It'd be awesome if you got a DOD server running. I'd definately whack [-SX-] on my name even though I'm not much of a clan person! Jakki - PWOARRR! :yumyum:

Dave - Hows it goin mate! U were pretty hot on CS earlier!

I want my pc to be running fine before DOD:source comes out so my current plan is to move up to a 500W power supply and format the hard drive. It's odd because i can run HL2 at fully maxxed settings but I have to run CS at low settings and when a server fills the fps can go down to 10!!! If I'm still having this problem on Wednesday I'll have to sort some overclocking! :eh:
 
I can run HL2 1280x1024 4xaa 8xaf max details just fine. CS:S i cldnt dream of doing that. Wierd huh.
 
hey! welcome to SX!! i dont play all that many games lol, but i do play halo trial a lot...thats pritty demanding... but you might consider rather than a new powersuply a new peocessor or motherbord...

umm ionicle he dosent really need a new motherboard or cpu they are fine ;)
 
most source games tend to run slowly on mp..ive always wondered why, its the same with wolfenstein ET..although i think in that case its because its just a very nice engine to base such a huge game on :D

and hi to you young man, i hope you quickly rise to my levels of expertise in computers(which take the amount of time it takes to read this post ;) )
 
NickS - i ran HL2 at 1600X1200 and had antianalyzing on top (is that 16x or 8x?) and all the rest on the highest settings and it ran ok. So you can't even play CS? Why not?

Yeah I think my motherboard and CPU are fine for now. If the CPU is letting me down ill have to OC it. If it breaks then i guess its time for a new CPU :)

Lol Deepfried - so have you tried overclocking at all? I wonder if steam is letting the game down?
 
yeah, i OC a bit when i need to extra grunt to make up for the geforce 4 on new games...im only on slightly modded stock coolign atm so im gonna wait for water prices to ocme down and rig up a new cooling system:)

EDIT: steam lets everythign down, its a pos :)
