Hi everyone, first post here. I'm planning a massive upgrade in a few months provided I can get the funds, and looking forward to seeing how all the new hardware from Intel, ATi & nVidia benches when it's released Q1, and hopefully seeing a card which can max Crysis at a decent res/FPS! I havent really done OCing or anything like that cos my PC is an ancient, BIOS locked hulk (see below) which I try to ignore + just use the family PC (also pretty bad) for gaming lol. I'll probably be seeking some advice about P45s, OCing a Q9450 and other stuff. My current specs are actually unbelievable, seriously pity me cos my rig should be in a museum! I currently have:

CPU: Intel PII @333MHz :O

Mobo: ? it's definatley not ATX but it's old and has a vast array of ISA slots (Legacy hardware FTW!)

GPU: Integrated (I think it's 4Mb which is not even worth having and there is no AGP slot! :( )

RAM: 384Mb DDR @100MHz

HDD: 15.73Gb total space on 2 drives with a bit of partitioning as BIOS refuses to recognise partition over 8.11Gb

PSU: Some crap OEM piece of rubbish probably <300W

1* IDE DVD burner

5.1 Aureon Surround sound card

Case: Hewlett Packard Kayak XA case circa 1997/8

BUT! there is a light on the Horizon! I am saving up and have already made a few purchases for my new rig.

2* 160Gb HGST Harddrives to put in RAID 0

520W Corsair HX Series Modular PSU

Antec 900 Ultimate Gamer's Case

Cibox 19" LCD (1440*900)

Unbelievably I have to run the monitor in standard 4:3 aspect ratio at the moment because the junk it's plugged into cannot output 16:10 but nevermind.

I basically am pretty much lookin to get

Intel Q9450

Zalman CPNS9500/9700

A decent P35/P45 mobo depending on price but about ~£75 (lookin at the MSI P35 Neo2-FR atm)

2*1Gb Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500 (1066MHz)

Whatever the best GFX card for ~£150 is in a few months time.

I don't have a job at the moment but I am lookin and have about £75 (lol still a long way to go) saved up and will continue to save all my money for my rig.

Well good to have you here :)

I think the parts you have the the ones planned should be pretty damn nice and my word you'll notice an improvement :D

Stick around and your sure to recieve the best advice possible :D

Wow, quick reply! Thanks I really like tech + hardware so I'll be sure to check the boards regularly for the latest news and advice. Yeah I should notice a pretty big improvement :D from the stone-age to modern day lol.

@cda: Yeah this thread's pretty old, tbh it's not as bad as all that now, I got some other parts since then so the Kayak is all boxed up waiting to become a collectors item in a few decades time, ready to sell on to someone who likes old PCs.
