Heatspreader on/off???

Ok guys getting idle/load temps of 31/42 respectively on this 4800 X2. My question is will it help much if i remove the heatspreader???

Lol, i would rather upgrade my cooling than remove the IHS, the amount you will gain varies from chip to chip, i have seen some with really poor IHS contact where they gain 5-10C, others have fairly good contact and you only gain 2-3C.

If it is worth it is down to you, it's only money after all if you damage it :p

What about remove put decent layer ceramic paste and reseal which is what I want to do but what does one use to reseal anyone know???

Not a post to say do or dont do it, however if you do plz take pics...wanna see what a dual core looks like without a IHS.

Yes. :D.

You can get shigsy to do it - he's coordinated.

Yeh as Gollum knows ive jus taken a ihs (ad 2 give ihs 2 a mate) off a brand new fx57 which i will be puttin up for sale soon....

my advise 2 you would be take your time as its ur first go at it, and make sure u dnt cut 2 deep otherwise u will take off a surface resistor ;)

yeap i cut to deep once and took some resistors off an old athlon 3200 CG, but lucky for me the cpu still booted and worked fine, temps were not that much of an improvement thou.

Hello?

WE ARE EXTREME PROMETEIA - not cautious prommies!!

Take it to the max my friend and go forward and remove that IHS - if you PM Shigsy - he will remove it for ya (at a very reasonable price).

The temp difference of a few degrees can be teh differnece between a good overclock and a great overclock.

GET EXTREME!!

Thats an interesting question - the answer to which right now is no - but I feel that shigsy will be removing it in the near future.

;)

if u have a X2 cpu then removing the ihs is pretty much a MUST, ppl ave reported up2 10-13c drop in loaded temps!!!

Yeah I don't think its worth removing Mav. It seems to be a problem with the X2's.

Problem for X2's I dont understand - do you mean X2's will benefit more?

A few degrees extra could be the difference between tumbling records and also rans - as the EPUK coach (and top bencher at present) it's only right to be as extreme as I can be with the resources I have - success is good for the team, failure is not an option.

wat mavs sayin is right, every degree helps tbh! especially when goin for those extra bench stable mhz!

and also imma be back in the game within the next 2weeks, try take down some air coolin WRs, gonna be goin for 600core on air on a single 7800gtx ;)

wats the current ep-uk record for a single 7800gtx on 3dmark03 and 05 regardless of coolin?
