Looking for a new pair of headphones which will primarily be used for music and possibly a tiny bit of gaming.

I listen to Rock, Metal, Heavy Metal, Bass Music (Drum n' Bass, Glitch Hop, etc), Classical, Jazz, and a bit of Rap.

Looking at spending anywhere up to around the $125 AUD mark.

Currently looking at the Audio Technica ATH-M50s and the Denon DN-HP1000, both pretty much the same price ($1 difference...)

I use beyerdynamic DT770s which I find very good in quality and comfort so I can recommend those.

What soundcard do you have?

The DT770s costs too much, they are almost $300 and I can't really justify the price because I am only a 'casual' music listener, not a DJ or mixer, etc.

I have a Creative SupremeFX X-Fi in one of my PC's and an AsRock GameBlaster which uses the Creative Sound Core3D in my main rig.

Looking at headphones that are a maximum of about $125 or thereabouts.

Thats weird, because its widely used in the film industry. Theres also the mdr v6 and the mdr v600. They all look comfy to me and as long as you dont do weird stuff with them they shouldnt break.

The HD280 are widely used by DJ's and regarded as good cans. This reminds me of the HD-25 series from Sennheiser (some models are cheaper than others). Also used by DJ's a lot and are very good.

I dont have experience with all these cans but a while back ive done a lot of research on them because i needed a new headphone. Ended up with an HDJ 2000 when i could not get the Sony MDR 7509 (non HD) which was regarded as one of the best in that price range. But these are out of your price range, unfortunately....

The best way to choose is to find a place with these headphones and try them out.
