Headphone and desktop mic upgrade?

Good morning all,

I've spent the last few days thinking about changing my audio set up.
Currently I have Corsair SP2500 hooked up to ROG formula VII on board sound and Astro A40 gen 2 via optical.

I like my SP2500 so going to keep them but I'm looking at buying new headphones, a pair of beyerdynamic 990s to be exact in custom colours ( see attached photo) but I know that means il need a desktop mic of some kind and a way to connect it all to my PC but I'm a complete noob when it comes to Audio.

I don't have a massive budget as the headphones will be a gift but was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction :)

Cheers all.

I tried making pic smaller but didn't work. :(

on the Samson, awesome mics for the money. I think our GTA Crew all use Samson microphones apart for TPC and the sound quality is great.

Clear voices everywhere, they're all condenser mics so you don't have to put them up to your mouth which helps that there are no plops whenever someone pronounce a "P" and there's no cracking noises anywhere.

Well if you buy them from an etailer you'll probably pay around 120 quid and they are well worth the money, but they won't be customized.

If you just want to copy my entire audio setup, this is what to go for...

Samson Meteor USB Mic Black

-Black Velour Ear pads
-Black Leather Headband

I can also vouch for the DT990's.

I bought a DT770 after seeing posted here so many times and those were great, and that price.
Now i bought DT990 Premium 250ohm from the rainforest as the non prem version has coiled cable. Now these are just as great, i even use it more than the 770s now.

Great minds n all that Joe, guess we have similar taste judging by the colour choices lol. How long you had those for? They new?

I might go for the mic that's been recommended, don't know if I have the dolla for a sound card as I have other upgrade plans lol

The Custom One Pro are on sale at the moment.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...tom one pro&qid=1448201319&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

From what I read they pretty much use the same driver set up as the 990 only they are bass ported and you can adjust the ports. I have mine set to full, and even then I would like a little more bass but then I'm a basshead lol. I'm used to sitting in my old car with a long throw 18" woofer in it.

What's nice about the Custom One Pro Plus model is that it comes with lots of back plates so you can really customise the headphones to how you want them to look :)

As for mics? I have a Blue Snowball.

You can get them in black also.. I only paid £30 inc for mine when they were on sale and lots of my friends have commented on how good it sounds :)

I've got a valve based DAC. I run it line, as USB had compatibility issues with some of my games.

What? You have no sound card NOR an external audio interface/ DAC?

Why are you even considering spending £200 on headphones?

As I said I'm a audio noob lol but I want decent sound and the headphones are a bday gift from the misses.
Just wondered how i was going to connect it all etc and what I needed.
So if I get the 990s that DAC and the Samson and keep the SP2500 plugged into the mobo It should all work together etc?

That DAC also has a 3.5mm out at the back, which is what I'm assuming the SP2500s use? In that case you plug the DAC into your motherboard via USB and the speakers and headphones audio will go through that.

Then you just plug the USB mic into your motherboard too and you're good to go :)

Yeah it is 3.5mm =] Ahhh I got ya, Looks like I have the shopping list all figured out.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Nice :)

One last thing, iirc the FiiO E10k will require drivers within Windows. You can also opt for the slightly older E10 which is mostly the same but doesn't require drivers. I think they're both £61 on Amazon.

It doesn't require drivers, it's plug and play:)

While I love the e10k for what it is, I'd really recommend getting something like a Schiit DAC/Amplifier as they offer so much more and won't require you to have to replace the e10k if you ever decide to improve the audio setup

This is there website, as I don't live in the UK Idk where you can buy them from, I'd reckon Amazon UK has it. They are little more expensive but you could just get the DAC now and in the future get the Amplifier if you want to add speakers or something of the sort:)

I totally recommend FiiO E10k and the DT990 PRO 250Ohm

This is what I have but the e10k is at its limits with 250ohms and it'd evident in the bass being a little weak. Turning the gain to high and bass boost on really helps but I personally feel its still lacking. I doubt it's the headphones but to me the bass isn't as strong as I would have thought it would be. Still an amazing budget combo that's for sure and I'd still recommend it to anyone who asked.

Either combination would work wonders for the DT990s
