HDMI Support?

Do the latest range of graphics cards from nVidia or ATi support/ output HDMI?

Just wondering, as I'll be investing in a new monitor soon, and it seems that this is the connection to go for....

AFAIK no one has released a card with the connectors yet, there were quite a few on show at Computex 06, i think some should be coming in September.

I think it is a question of adding the necessary chip and then most cards should support it.

September you say... :B

I wonder how long it'll take for all the new monitors to follow through. I'm surprised those latest Dell ones don't support it :(

September was for a 7600GT with HDMI so you might not jump at it too much.

I think it might take a long time because DVI is perfectly good enough for the signal job, AFAIK it is capable of carrying the HDCP signal, so i think the only difference is HDMI carries sound as well, which isnt need for most monitors.

There is zero difference between the picture of HDMI and DVI. It's worth investing in a decent cable though if you'll be playing hd movies. I got the QED HDMI cable for my lounge setup and the QED DVI cable for my 32" HDTV (monitor). The only difference is that HDMI carries sound as well as picture.

Totally agree with you mate, there is no difference between DVI and HDMI all you need is decent cable which is gonna cost you starting from about 50£ and upwards ;).

I'd love to see the difference between a £50 scart and a freebie SCART - I am too scared of losing £50 if there is no difference loooooooooooool

I can't imagine that there is a 'massive difference', as a digital signal is either a '1' or '0' - even budget cables come with braid which shields interference such as mains hum.

It's not like the old analog circuits where you may notice a difference 8)

Pop into ur local Hi-Fi store and ask them to hook up a decent dvd player (denon A1XVA perharps) to a decent screen or projector (Pioneer 5000EX/427XD or Actiondesign 2) and look at a freebie hdmi or dvi then compare it to the named pricier cable. The difference can truely be night and day. The freebie cables add lots of noise to the picture and can make weaknesses in hardware show up a lot more (motion effects etc).
