For the below system:
ABit IP35 Pro
Q6600 & 4G
MSI 8600GTS w/hmdi audio in
Creative Xfi w/Front Panel
At one point, working off Vista 32bit, I was able to setup the pc, audio cable from the 8600 to the front panel of the Xfi, plugged the hdmi cable from the 8600 to Samusung TV - and the audio was fine.
After a long while, the OS was acting up on other fronts, besides which the audio was breaking up. Like it would have a gap, then you`d hear something breifly, then it`d cut out - and repeat. (all the while, sound through the 5.1 speakers was fine).
Since this/then I had reinstalled the pc using Vista 64bit (using latest Vista 64bit drivers for everything I believe), and I tried the TV in the same way and got the same cut in/cut out - cut out being the longest period.
I happened to "play" with the creative audio panel on the desktop, switching the spdif from something like 48khz to 96, and now the trend is almost reversed. Cut in/cut out - only the longest period being when it cuts in.
Obviously an annoyance now. TV sound works fine btw.
So it seems to me the frequency of the output of the spdif is the issue. It`s highest setting is 96. Although I did see somewhere in it`s settings about 128 (or similar) for something else.
Now, am I to assume that the HDMI output is required to be in excess of 96 in order to get an uninterupted sound ? (this is with either playing something on vlc or simple audio on wmp, no codecs installed to this point)
As I said, a whole while ago, it simply worked and I didn`t play with anything.
