HD3870X2 vbios of ASUS

My graphic cards keeps crashing on RuneScape and some other games, on runescape its an 100% chance of a nice bluescreen, most of the time after 0-1 second. When it boots back up windows says it was an graphic driver failure. My friend also had this problem but got rid of it by flashing the vbios.

And the runescape thingy, its not that I want to play runescape, but there are some games I do wanna play and also crash, such as Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. Runescape is just 100% fail.

I found a reliable source of vbios' so I downloaded 'm and flashed my graphic card to it. It booted, but actually ATI crossfireX got enabled and my HD3870X2 was shown as two HD3870's, while one of the two was just at 0% gpu use all the time because it was not reachable. So that meant the master and slave got screwed up and both cards where flashed with master bios. So I guess the sources weren't as reliable as it seemed. I will be able to flash back to original if I have the bios.

Then I tried flashing it back to my original vbios. When I did that the card said the flash was successfull on both 'cards'. So I rebooted the system. But no screen...

It remains black, computer functions fine by the way. If you wait long enough the windows sound of windows vista plays and its booted. But no screen.

On the internet i can not find the original vbios'. I actually think the vbios' got corrupted with the backupping(The newly backupped vbios' got corrupted) So I am now searching for someone that has an fully working HD3870X2.

The full product name is: EAH3870X2/HTD/1G/A.

This product name is on the sticker on top of the backplate. Please help me out with this one, I'm running out of options.

It would be perfect if someone with the same card would upload the original bios.

Thanks in advance,

Hypherion

Im afraid I can't help you directly, however, the guys over on benchtec.co.uk are always mucking around with card bios's, so I would recommend asking them :)

Any other options, the guys are not responding to my overclock3d email...

I really need that vBios, is there no one here that has the same card and can provide me with an vbios?

If it's allowing desktop and playing for a short period b4 the bsod, make sure ur cooling on the card is working properly.

My cooling is working properly.

Everthing is workign properly, except for the card giving no screen.

Even windows boots... (You can hear the sound of Vista logging in)

But the vbios is just screwed up, so no screen.

Well you could try a blind flash? I am unsure of how flashing ATI dual cards works but on Nvidia you have to tell it to flash the first card then the second card. Obviously, you have two bioses to flash.

From what you have said it flashes both at the same time?

I need two biosses indeed. A Master BIOS and a slave BIOS. I backed up the orginal biosses, but atiflash saved the master bios 2 times

Wich makes the computer thinks it has 2 3870's in 2 PCI'e slots. So one will be used and the other one will not. So now I need a orginal bios with Master and a slave.

Is it all done in command line dos? I am confused on how the second card go flashed. Surely you have to tell it to flash the each card. With a command like -0 or -1?

Yes it is all flashed from DOS.

atiflash -p 0 newbios.bin

atiflash -p 1 newbios2.bin

backing up was

atiflash -s 0 oldbios.bin

atiflash -s 1 oldbios2.bin

In all seriousness, I would look to the advice of people who flash these on a regular basis.

Just goes against the grain for me to say to flash anything, mobo included, if these is a problem going on.

As opposed to a blind-flash, how about sticking an elcheapo card in as a card to use for monitor use and flashing the x2 whilst it's not being used as a main display. Benefit of this being u know ur going to have a viewable screen through the whole procedure.

If u don't have a spare gfxcard, in all honesty every enthusiast should have a pos £6 card for such things, even if it's a pci one.

Master bios should be located at 'card 0'

Slave bios should be located at 'card 1'

I saved both using

atiflash -s 0 oldbios.bin

atiflash -1 1 oldbios2.bin

Both bios files turned out to be the same

Instead of one smaller slave and one bigger master.

So thats how they got screwed up togetter.

I remember when I flashed my GX2 it was a nail biting moment. I was lucky it all worked fine. Rast seems to have the best plan. If you don't have a PCI card sitting about eBay is probably a good place to look. ;)

My Asus Maximus Formula did not boot from an PCI graphic card. So that will not working, I will have to buy an PCIe extra card. And since this is my first real computer(others were OEM) I don't have spare parts.

And yes I do know something about computers, and I do have this computer for a while.

But the whole flashing is not the problem. I can also borrow a card from a friend if really needed. It are those bios files I don't got.

If I had the bios files it would be running fine like 5 minutes after the failure.

The guides are perfect.

One problem.

Those are all master bioses, I did flash my card with them.

Now I got 2 virtual HD3870's, instead of one HD3870X2.

So the pc now thinks the second card is in the second slot

Not using it for the tiniest bit.

I do have a working computer though, but the performance of one HD3870.

I hope to find a slave bios so I can get it back to full Hd3870X2 performance.

all you need is the info for that slave bios, then you can edit that master bios as your slave. best bet is contact asus support and ask them to send you a bios or give you the info you need to edit the bios yourself .:)

edit I just found a modded asus bios for 3870 x2, clocked quite high, there is a master and a slave bios, if you want them pm me you email address. you could flash those then edit the clocks down if need be. but if it goes **** up, its not my fault.;)
